Job Description:

SUMMARY

To effectively lead and maximize available resources and develop a companywide commitment to produce quality products efficiently based on Standard Operating Procedures while ensuring best Safety practices and full commitment to excellence.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Report personnel or product safety concerns to management
  • Responsible for outline, implementation and maintenance of the Quality Management System as well as compliance with company Quality Standards, cGMP and SQF guidelines.
  • Establish the company's quality documentation system, which includes the quality policy (SOP's), quality objectives, quality manual, procedures, work instructions, and quality records for both internal and external reporting.
  • Lead problem-solving and Continuous Improvement initiatives with the facility and customers to add value and customer satisfaction.
  • Serve as liaison with customers and suppliers regarding quality issues and work with both to continually improve the company's quality management system in order to meet or exceed the customers' requirements.
  • Responsible for plant quality KPI management and communication and actively engage department managers as well as plant personnel.
  • Serve as Company Forestry Compliance Officer for SFI, PEFC and FSC requirements.
  • Serve as plant HACCP leader.
  • Perform the SQF Practitioner function as required per the SQF System.
  • Serve as liaison with external auditors and lead internal audits.
  • Participate in daily production meetings and new business meetings.
  • Help with inspection, fill in for QA personnel if on vacation or out sick, or rotate personnel to accomplish same as needed.
  • Investigate new test equipment, technology, and methods relating to Quality Assurance as they become available.
  • Keep QA equipment properly maintained.
  • Provide working guidelines for QA personnel. Instruct and train QA personnel, and other personnel, as needed.
  • Work closely with department supervisors to ensure the proper quality procedures are being accomplished at each machine center/department and personnel are properly trained.
  • Review and evaluate all personnel as it relates to the quality process and performance.
  • Occasional travel to customer sites for audits and/or product inspection as needed.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Supervises personnel in the Quality Assurance Department. Is responsible for the overall supervision, coordination, training, and evaluation of this unit. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include: assigning work, checking work, discipline, costs, maintaining quality and quantity standards, organizing work, evaluations, prioritizing and delegating work assignments as directed by upper management.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Bachelor's degree or equivalent; or five to ten years' related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education/experience and knowledge of paperboard manufacturing preferred.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, write short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence, effectively present information one-on-one, small groups, and other employees of the organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, percent, and draw bar graphs.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
