The critical role of Quality Manager will report to the President of Legacy Brazing and will focus on mission success for the entire Organization. The Quality Manager will oversee the operations of the Quality Department, ensuring compliance with all applicable quality system, customer, or third party accreditation requirements. This role is critical in maintaining the integrity of the vacuum brazing process, as proper temperature control directly affects the quality, safety, and reliability of aerospace components. Our handiwork has helped put Space Shuttles into orbit and jet fighters into the air.
Primary Job Responsibility: Oversee pyrometry process and perform weekly and monthly audits ensuring the pyrometry heat-treatment processes meets strict standards for precision, reliability, and quality.
Understanding Industry Standards:
Become the quality expert with industry-specific standards, such as AMS 2750 (Aerospace Material Specification for pyrometry), NADCAP requirements, and other aerospace quality management standards like AS9100.
Customer Specifications: Ensure compliance with customer-specific requirements for brazing processes and pyrometry practices.
Equipment Management
Temperature Sensors: Oversee the selection, installation, and use of thermocouples and other temperature-sensing devices.
Calibration Instruments: Maintain accurate and reliable calibration instruments for verifying pyrometric equipment.
Calibration & Certification
Calibration Intervals: Ensure regular calibration of thermocouples, temperature controllers, and recording devices according to prescribed intervals.
Documentation: Maintain thorough records of all calibration activities, including equipment identification, calibration dates, and results.
System Accuracy Tests (SAT) and Temperature Uniformity Surveys (TUS)
SAT: Perform regular System Accuracy Tests to verify that the entire temperature-measuring system operates within specified tolerances.
TUS: Conduct Temperature Uniformity Surveys to ensure the furnace provides a consistent thermal environment throughout the working zone.
Audit and Continuous Improvement
Internal Audits: Regularly review pyrometry practices for adherence to standards and identify areas for improvement.
External Audits: Prepare for and support audits by external entities such as NADCAP or customer representatives.
Root Cause Analysis: Address non-compliance issues promptly and implement corrective and preventive actions.
Determine Quality Standards: Work with management and engineering staff to determine quality standards and document requirements.
Compliance Reporting: Document, investigate, submit and follow up on customer and supplier non-conformance and complaint reports.
Perform third party accreditation audits, including addressing findings and implementing changes.
Documentation and Reporting
Maintain detailed and accessible records of pyrometry activities, ensuring they meet both internal and external audit requirements.
Generate compliance reports to demonstrate adherence to standards.
Maintain NCR log and associated charts.
Required Experience & Skills:
Bachelors Degree in engineering or business administration and/or 5 years experience in the quality field
AS9100
Quality control experience with pyrometry highly preferred, not required
ISO quality standards
Proficiency with Microsoft computer and/or MRB system (Material Review Board)
Knowledge of ASME Y14.5 and ANSI/ASQC Z1.4 preferred
Understanding of customer drawings, specifications and purchase order requirements.
NADCAP (National Aerospace and Defense Contractors Accreditation Program) knowledge a plus!
