The Weather Channel is creating a regional weather product that will deliver various taped and live weather forecasts to affiliate clients. The product will be based in The Weather Channel's Atlanta headquarters and bring the unparalleled excellence and expertise of one of America's most trusted brands.
This project will feature meteorologists and weather presenters. In addition to near-live forecasting of weather conditions across the United States, The Weather Channel regional project will provide live reporting from the studio for severe events. Our coverage will help viewers increase their safety and awareness of extreme weather events. Also, the project will be responsible for fulfilling advertising sponsorships for weather-related content. This is a 24/7 operation.
This project combines the grit and agility of a start-up network, with the infrastructure and resources of an established media company - The Weather Channel, which is the TV News Brand of the Year for 9 years in a row, America's most trusted video production news network, and one of the most loved brands in America.
Position Summary
On-air weather anchors for The Weather Channel regional project have responsibility for presenting taped and real-time weather information to viewers across the United States from The Weather Channel Network studios in Atlanta, GA. In addition to on-air responsibilities, on camera meteorologists will be required to use weather graphics systems to create weather graphics and/or weather hits to be used in their own presentations or those of other meteorologists.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Pre-tape Preparation
Briefs on the latest weather of the day, relevant weather forecasts & daily content assets
Works in some cases with a producer editor to create multiple forecasts per shift for a dozen or so markets, refreshing several times throughout the shift.
Responsible for creating on-air content using multiple graphic platforms including TruVu Max. Preps all on-air presentation systems with needed content.
Proofreads and coordinates graphics adjustments (as needed) for accuracy, readability, and personal voice.
Creates a well groomed, neat, professional appearance adhering to all Company guidelines for hairstyling, make-up, and attire.
On-Air Presentation
Displays professionalism at all times through a credible and trustworthy, authoritative, confident, knowledgeable and polished performance using appropriate tone for each situation.
Provides clear articulation, enunciation, and pronunciation.
Delivers an engaging presentation that displays energy, passion, enthusiasm, interest, and caring/empathy with appropriate intensity.
Maintains a well groomed, neat, professional appearance adhering to all Company guidelines for hairstyling, make-up, and attire.
Communicates easy-to-follow forecasting with seamless flow and clear, understandable elements that support the story. Understands and relates to the audience and explains the weather using easy-to-understand terms.
Authoritative communication and pronunciation of geography on a national and regional scale.
Education, Experience, Certification Requirements
Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience; Meteorology or Atmospheric Science degree (or equivalent) preferred.
Must have experience presenting the weather live and on tape, preferably using WSI TruVu Max systems.
Must be willing to relocate to Atlanta
Must be willing to work various shifts and extended hours based on significant weather events, including weekends as needed
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Local reporting experience preferred
Experience covering severe weather (in all seasons).
Proficiency creating weather graphics with WSI TruVu Max.
Competency operating broadcast meteorology equipment; experience using interactive technology preferred.
Track record of success working both individually and in an interdisciplinary team environment.
Able to work effectively in a fast paced, high pressure environment without sacrificing accuracy and attention to detail.
Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
