UPower Energy is a rapidly growing technology-driven energy solution provider and platform that unlocks the full potentials of the distributed energy ecosystems (generation, smart grid and load management) for sustainability, accessibility, affordability and reliability of energy. Since its inception, UPower Energy has developed, invested, built and operated dozens of distributed power generation facilities in multiple states.
Position Overview: We are seeking a skilled and analytical Distributed Energy Resources (DER) Analyst to join our team. In this role, you will play a key part in developing and optimizing energy solutions for utility companies and commercial customers. You will focus on analyzing procurement costs, researching regulatory frameworks, identifying incentives, and building financial models to support the implementation of distributed energy resources (DER) such as solar, wind, battery storage, CHP etc. Your work will directly contribute to reducing energy costs, enhancing sustainability, and supporting the transition to a cleaner energy grid.
Key Responsibilities:
Energy Procurement Cost Analysis:
Review and analyze commercial and utility energy procurement contracts to break down costs into key categories (e.g., congestion, demand charges, energy charges, fixed fees).
Review and analyze energy consumption patterns and load characteristics.
Identify cost drivers and potential opportunities for savings using DER solutions.
Regulatory and Incentive Research:
Conduct comprehensive research on local, state, and federal regulations that impact DER deployment.
Identify and assess available incentives, grants, and programs that support renewable energy adoption and cost reduction.
Stay informed of evolving policies and regulatory changes impacting the DER landscape.
Cost-Benefit Analysis:
Evaluate the economic and operational benefits of DER solutions such as solar, wind, and battery energy storage systems for utility companies and customers.
Analyze potential energy savings, grid reliability improvements, and carbon reduction impacts.
Financial Modeling:
Develop detailed financial models to assess project feasibility, return on investment (ROI), and levelized cost of energy (LCOE).
Incorporate incentive structures, financing options, and projected savings into the models.
DER Solutions Evaluation:
Analyze the performance of onsite generation systems to optimize energy savings and align with customer goals.
Collaborate with engineering teams to assess system sizing, design, and operational requirements.
Stakeholder Communication:
Present findings and recommendations to internal teams, customers, and utility companies.
Prepare clear and concise reports, proposals, and presentations to support decision-making.
Data and Market Analysis:
Monitor market trends and technology advancements in distributed energy resources.
Leverage data analytics tools to identify opportunities and track performance metrics.
Qualifications:
Education:
Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Energy Systems, Environmental Science, Economics, Business, or a related field. Advanced degree preferred.
Experience:
2+ years of experience in energy systems, renewable energy, or utility industries.
Strong understanding of DER technologies, energy markets, and financial analysis.
Skills:
Knowledge of utility rate structures and energy market procurement process.
