Senior Product Design Engineer

Hybrid, Permanent Opportunity in La Crosse, WI

Overview:

The Senior Product Design Engineer plays a crucial role within the product development team, collaborating closely with other Engineering groups, including the Test Lab, Manufacturing, and Product Management, to develop competitive designs for our commercial HVAC equipment. This individual must possess the technical skills needed to lead product design projects, oversee product validation testing, identify root causes for quality and reliability issues, interpret technical standards, and conduct projects following standard engineering practices and the stage-gate product development process.

Responsibilities:
  • Address the needs of internal and external customers by documenting, understanding, and prioritizing their requirements.
  • Use technical expertise to resolve design challenges and assess product suitability for various applications.
  • Lead initiatives to achieve performance, reliability, cost, and schedule targets.
  • Facilitate design and test plan reviews to ensure designs are robust and reliable.
  • Perform design FMEAs and develop risk mitigation plans as needed.
  • Provide technical support to lab technicians, manufacturing engineers, suppliers, technical service teams, and operations.
  • Assist in resolving issues in both field and factory settings.
  • Conduct laboratory testing as required.
  • Occasional overnight travel (under 10%) is required.

Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering (or a related field) and a minimum of 7 years of experience in engineering or product design are required. A Master's Degree in Engineering is preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of HVAC systems, including refrigeration, heat transfer, airflow, and ventilation.
  • Excellent technical, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Skilled in gathering and organizing information to make timely, informed engineering decisions.
  • Able to manage tasks and deliverables efficiently in a fast-paced, multi-project environment.
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively at all levels of the organization.
  • Effective team player with mentoring capabilities as needed.
  • Preferred background in Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Familiarity with ASME Boiler & Pressure Vessel Code (BPVC) is preferred.
  • Knowledge of Computer-Aided Design (CAD) is advantageous.

Compensation:
  • $100,000 to $145,000 annual base salary, depending on experience.
