The laboratory of Dr. Amy Hartman in the Department of Infectious Diseases and Microbiology (IDM) and Center for Vaccine Research (CVR) in Pitt Public Health at the University of Pittsburgh, invites applications for a Postdoctoral Associate position. We are seeking applicants with backgrounds in molecular virology, reverse genetics, next-generation sequencing, bioinformatics, fluorescent imaging, and cell and molecular biology. Candidates with virology experience and a keen interest in studying virus-host interactions at the cellular level, vaccine, and diagnostic development are encouraged to apply. The research objectives of Hartman's lab include understanding the pathogenic mechanisms of RNA viruses, particularly arboviruses (viruses transmitted by insect vectors). The focus of her research is on arboviruses that have the potential to spread to new locations (emerging viruses), as well as those that have the potential for misuse through bioterrorism.
Current research projects in Dr. Hartman's lab focus on 1) the neuropathogenesis of RVFV; 2) mechanisms of vertical transmission of RVFV; and 3) the design and evaluation of novel therapeutics and vaccines to treat RVF disease, particularly encephalitis. The successful candidate will join a highly collaborative research community and will have access to state-of-the-art BSL-2 and BSL-3 research facilities.
Qualifications
Ph.D. in Molecular Biology, Microbiology, Immunology, or a related field is required. A strong background and proven track record in one or more of the following areas are preferred: virus-host interaction studies, virus biology, reverse genetics, vaccinology, proficiency in next-generation sequencing, and use of bioinformatics tools. Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills are essential.
