Job Description:

Erikson Institute (Chicago, IL), a premier graduate school in child development, early childhood education and social work, is seeking to hire an Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor (tenure-track/tenured) with a research agenda inclusive of equity and justice to join our Child Development and Child Life faculty. Faculty in this area are leaders in our master's and doctoral programs in child development, including our Association of Child Life Professionals (ACLP) Endorsed child life program that prepares child life specialists to serve as critical child- and family-focused psychosocial, developmental, and advocacy professionals in hospitals, community-based health centers, and other settings. We are looking for experts in child development whose research, scholarship, and teaching center equity and justice. We seek colleagues who are collaborative and want to engage in impactful research with disinvested communities, innovative program development, and dynamic teaching.

This is an open rank search for a Tenure-Track/Tenured Professor in Child Development who will complement and expand our faculty's existing interests and contribute to the intellectual leadership of the Child Development and Child Life programs. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strength-or the potential to develop strengths-in scholarship, teaching, community engagement, and systems change. In addition, competitive candidates will demonstrate scholarly expertise in one or more focal areas (e.g., child and adolescent development, emotional safety and trauma-informed care, systemic healthcare inequity and medical racism, disability and ableism, etc.). This 10-month position includes teaching a 2/2 course load per academic year, mentoring students, and engaging in program service activities-including committees, curriculum development, and program planning. Depending on the candidate's experience, hiring will be considered at the rank of Assistant Professor, Associate or Full Professor. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Minimum Qualifications

PhD or terminal doctoral degree (e.g., PsyD, EdD) in child development or related fields

Ability to foster collaborative relationships with faculty, staff, students, & external partners

Academic scholarship or clinical research experience with the potential to significantly impact the field of child development as visible in scholarly record of research presentations and publications

Demonstrated record of or potential for obtaining external funding

University teaching experience

Record of working with ethnically, racially, and culturally diverse communities

Expertise and/or potential in student mentoring and advisement

Experience, expertise, or interest in curricular innovations prioritizing social justice

Preferred Qualifications

+ An earned certification in child life (CCLS) and/or 2+ years working as a child life specialist, in pediatric healthcare, or in an adjacent setting

+ An undergraduate and/or graduate degree in child development or closely aligned field

+ Successful record of online and in person university teaching

+ Capacity and interest to engage in program evaluation and ongoing program improvement
