Job Description Summary



Under the general supervision of the Lamb Weston Legal, Regulatory and Compliance Department ("LRC"), the Director Trade Compliance will develop, maintain and support the implementation and oversight of the global trade compliance program for Lamb Weston. The role's primary function is to support the company's adherence to International Trade Regulations and related requirements. Furthermore, this role will support the efficient and compliant movement of goods across international borders.


The Director of Global Trade Compliance is the subject matter expert on international trade requirements, systems, government programs, and will provide leadership, direction, guidance, and training on all topics relating to trade. The Director will develop necessary controls programs with scheduled audit and review schedules, issue escalation, corrective actions and mitigate risk with legal.

Work closely with internal leadership and stakeholder teams to drive improvements in strategy, processes, and technology to align with LW goals and guidelines, and applicable regulations. Utilize discretion and independent judgement to build and maintain collaborative partnerships with internal and external customers, suppliers, trade partners, and applicable jurisdictional agencies to ensure regulatory compliance and operational efficiency.



Job Description





  • Develop, implement and manage global trade controls program, using a risk-based strategy, to prevent, detect and respond to risks.

  • Perform global, regional and country formal risk assessments/audits to identify areas of opportunity, create audit reports with recommendations and action plans.

  • Develop, implement and annually review trade and compliance policies and procedures.

  • Train Lamb Weston team members on applicable policies, procedures, requirements, processes, and systems; document and track.

  • Establish and monitor key performance indicators from global trade partners and internal trade systems.

  • Periodically evaluate the sufficiency of transactional record keeping and maintenance in all jurisdictions.

  • Annually, and as required, validate Free Trade Agreement qualification (preferential country of origin), substantial transformation (non-preferential), and support issuance of certifications.

  • Monitor and identify current and future geopolitical and economic trade risks/exposures and develop strategies, actions and plans to address.

  • Identify, collaborate and contribute to continuous improvement and value-added opportunities to improve efficiencies, minimize risks, reduce costs, and make recommendations concerning these matters.

  • Review, document and confirm appropriate licensing, registration, authorizations, certificates, and supporting records, are maintained and retained for the statutory timelines.

  • Continuously monitor, screen, and review sanctioned/denied party exposures and conduct enhanced due diligence on business partners where appropriate, including independent research and analysis of supporting documentation.

  • Assist with periodic operational due diligence and transactional compliance checks on import and export transactions and liaise appropriately to develop remediation plans to address deficiencies.

  • Monitor and assess changing and emerging industry regulations applicable to import and export activities. Guide stakeholders on proactive and necessary regulatory changes pertaining to our business.

  • Serve as the direct contact in the response and resolution to 3rd party audits, inquiries, inspection, and investigations. Collaborate with appropriate stakeholders in these matters.

  • Show initiative and collaboration in proactively identifying and implementing measures to eradicate identified trade and compliance weaknesses, ineffective processes and improve processes

  • Monitor the sufficiency of trade systems (SAP, GTS, Descartes, Dow Jones, Karon, etc.)

  • Support the annual global review of commodity classifications for all imported/exported goods.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Comply with all job-related safety and other training requirements.




Basic & Preferred Qualifications





  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (International Affairs, Business and Trade, etc.)

  • J.D. (Juris Doctorate) with experience in international trade and global governance preferred

  • Minimum 10+ years of US import/export compliance.

  • U.S. Customs Broker License.

  • Experience with high volume global import/export transactions (1000+ per week) supporting a food processing and agribusiness firm.

  • Deep understanding of NA, EUMEA, LATAM and APAC regions and trade requirements.

  • Experience with CBP, FDA, USDA, EPA, FTC, BIS, CENSUS, OFAC, State Dept, CBSA, & CFIA; CTPAT and AEO programs; Drawback, 301 duties and exclusions, etc.

  • History of responding to inquiries and managing audits with customers and authorities.

  • Experience with mitigation processes, including prior disclosures

  • Deep understanding of WTO and WCO principles and application within each jurisdiction

  • Expertise on U.S. import regulations, including 19 CFR, HTSUS, AD & CVD, 301 tariffs and mitigation, and all trade programs.

  • Expertise on U.S. export regulations, including FTR, 15 CFR - EAR, ITAR, SPL/RPS, USML, Embargoes and Sanctions Programs, Licensing, etc.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage and drive projects, establish timelines, provide updates and bring projects to completion.



  • Experience with SAP, GTS, Descartes, Dow Jones, Kharon, ACE etc.

  • Ability to travel to global sites to provide operational and compliance training, audits, investigations and meet with strategic trade partners.

  • Skilled in root cause analysis, ability to gather and make inferences of data under analysis, and identification of gap trends.

A reasonable annual estimate of the range for this role based on the variables previously mentioned is: $138,750.00 - $208,120.00
