Position: Data Scientist-Natural and Artificial Minds

Description: Natural and Artificial Minds, housed in Princeton's Laboratory for AI, is seeking a mathematically-oriented Data Scientist to work with its world-renowned faculty and students to address questions in cognitive science and artificial intelligence using novel theoretical, mathematical and computational approaches. The data scientist will work across faculty members to develop, refine, prove, and/or test mathematical and computational theoretical innovations at the intersection of cognitive science and AI. As a Data Scientist joining the NAM initiative, you will contribute to the current core projects, "Explanation and Intelligibility" and "Developing and Testing AI Models of Human Cognitive Function." You will work in a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment and actively contribute your skills to advance discovery. You will work across a diverse group of faculty, postdocs, and students from multiple disciplines. You will have access to Princeton's first-class resources, the opportunity to co-author academic publications, offer short courses and workshops on data science, and collaborate with the larger data science community. Responsibilities: *Integrate with interdisciplinary research teams and creatively develop/apply formal, computational, and/or theoretical approaches to problems in cognitive science/AI *Collaborate with, educate, convene, and support a broad community of researchers on campus in how to best leverage formal, computational tools in their teaching and research, which may include contributing to mini-courses and workshops on data science. *Communicate results and impact to all stakeholders, which may include presenting research at academic conferences and workshops. Required Qualifications: *Ph.D. required in mathematics, computer science, data/computational science, formal philosophy, or related disciplinary field or equivalent combination of educational training and relevant experience. *Ability to work collaboratively to translate verbal, theoretical questions/hypothesis into formal statements *Experience using computational modeling, statistics, machine learning, and/or scientific computing to address basic research questions; or commensurate achievements Additional Desired Qualifications: *Proficiency in Python *Communicating complex ideas to relevant stakeholders. *Strong problem-solving skills; a passion for answering hard questions with data.
