Clinical Operations Director



The Director of Clinical Operations is a leadership role at Pitt Dental Medicine responsible for overseeing clinical operations while driving strategic initiatives that enhance patient care, operational efficiency, and educational excellence. This individual will play a pivotal role in aligning clinical practices with institutional goals, fostering innovation, and ensuring compliance with clinical policies and procedures.

Job Summary

Contributes to the development of strategic goals and plans for clinical services. Assists with human resource actions. Identifies funding opportunities and prepares grant proposals. Conducts clinical therapy services as directed.


Essential Functions

• Oversee day-to-day operations of the dental school's clinical facilities including regional sites, ensuring optimal patient care and efficient workflows.
• Implement and maintain systems to monitor and improve clinical performance, productivity, and patient satisfaction.
• Develop and enforce policies, protocols, and procedures in alignment with institutional and regulatory standards.
• Collaborate with department chairs and program directors to integrate clinical operations with student and resident education programs.
• Establish and monitor key performance indicators for revenue cycle performance and identifying areas for improvement.
• Identify opportunities for innovation in service delivery, technology integration, and operational processes.
• Evaluate emerging trends and best practices in clinical operations to inform strategic decision-making.
• Supervise and mentor clinical support staff, fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, and professional development.
• Work closely with faculty, administration, and other stakeholders to ensure alignment between clinical and institutional objectives.
• Serve as a key member of the leadership team, contributing to the development and implementation of long-term strategies.
• Prepare reports and presentations for institutional leadership, accrediting bodies, and other stakeholders.
• Work with leadership to align financial strategies with operational goals, fostering a culture of fiscal responsibility and accountability.


Physical Effort

Minimal physical effort other than ability to use a computer, communicate with others (verbal and written), and move around all areas of the School of Dental Medicine and regional sites for meetings, oversite of operations, patient consults, etc.
