We are seeking an energetic and collaborative Director of Clinical Operations. This position will be responsible for the overall patient experience in the practice. The Director will work with the Executive Committee and the COO to continuously improve the patient experience, refine the organization's strategic plans and long-range operational goals, and, from those goals, create an operating plan that the team can execute. This will require close coordination with the other senior managers in the research and business areas. This position has direct management oversight of the Clinical Managers and Supervisors. This position has overall responsibility for the following clinic teams: the Clinical Department (Check-In Technicians and Scribes), Imaging Department (Imaging Supervisors and Photographers), Oncology and Uveitis care teams, and the Clinical Support Department (triage and Worker's Comp coordination). This will include processes and teams from the following functional areas: Provider Relations/Marketing, Clinic, Patient Services, and Clinical Support. These areas are at the core of our practice and positively contribute to the patient's experience.

Responsibilities
Works and communicates with the Executive Committee on Clinic operational plans, which are directed by the BOD, overseen by the EC, and managed by the COO and Clinic Director.
In concert with the Clinical Quality Committee, helps set overall patient care standards and detailed operational practices and guidelines to ensure the staff adheres to the clinical standards defined by the BOD, external policies, and regulations.
May receive individual direction from physicians regarding clinical practices and protocols and then must convert those directions into operational improvements specific to a given doctor, location, or clinic process.
When required, serves as the critical clinical leader who assimilates other retina practices into our RCA regional pillar practice.
Directly assigns, tracks, and revises annual performance goals and short-term projects to subordinate managers and supervisors that cascade down from practice-wide goals/initiatives.
Responsible for the personnel management functions of all clinical staff in the department.
Leads a highly trained, experienced, competent clinic management team that can adequately oversee the clinic workforce.
Maintains a professional development program for all clinic managers, supervisors, and employees. Adapts this program as the standard of care evolves.
Controls and steadily improves the entire department's use of systems, processes, and resources to better serve patients, physicians, and the practice.
Maintains a clinical analytics capability to analyze operations, improve systems, and utilize data to improve performance and meet Key Performance Indicators.
Maintains an imaging system (software and hardware) to collect, store, and recover patient images across all locations and imaging devices.
Manage the On Call Tech Program and the triage process.
Manages specialized clinical teams (i.e., Oncology and Uveitis) to support these care lines.
Periodically works in the clinic to assess operations, set the leadership example for the staff, and stay in touch with clinical operations.
Occasional driving and travel to clinic sites and off-site conferences and meetings.

The Clinic Director will work with other key leaders to carry out the following processes:
These three leaders are primarily responsible for the patient experience in partnership with the director of provider relations and the patient services manager. They will constantly use effective protocols, processes, and systems to improve the patient experience.
In partnership with the Research Manager, support the strategic goals of the Clinical Research Program, manage the research patient's experience in the clinic, and share staff when appropriate.
In partnership with the Billing Manager, adhere to generally accepted coding rules and comply with external quality reviews/audits from RCA and payers.
Works alongside the COO and CFO to plan and open new clinical offices and renovate existing ones.
In partnership with the CFO, oversee effective drug inventory management, clinic supplies, genetic testing, and labs.
Coordinate with the CFO to plan for, acquire, maintain, and replace all medical equipment.
In partnership with the HR Director, manage personnel for the clinic employees, including recruiting, hiring, training, coaching, pay, performance management, promotions, and termination.
Education, Training, and Experience
Must have a Bachelor's degree in a healthcare-related field. Master's degree or applicable professional license or certification in a healthcare field preferred.
Must have a minimum of 4 years as a Clinical leader, preferably in retina ophthalmology or optometry practice.
Current, professional Ophthalmic Technician certifications are preferred.
Expertise in an EMR system is required; specific experience in NexTech Intellichart Pro (MDI) is preferred.
Requires the ability to organize and prioritize strategic plans, short-term operational goals, and day-to-day tasks to keep a large clinical team working in a multi-site retina practice.
Must obtain and maintain CPR Certification
Effective verbal and written communication skills with patients, physicians, management, and employees

Typical Physical and Working Demands
Position requires prolonged walking, sitting, bending, stooping, and stretching. Good eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity are sufficient to operate a keyboard, photocopier, telephone, calculator, and other office equipment is required. Employees must have a standard hearing range and eyesight to record, prepare, and communicate appropriate reports.
