In this Director of Purchasing role, you will be overseeing the activities of purchasing assistants and central supply clerks, coordinating the procurement of materials, products, and services, and ensuring the supply needs of this organization are met in a timely and cost-effective manner. The ideal Director of Purchasing candidate will have a strategic mindset, exceptional leadership skills, and extensive experience in healthcare procurement or related fields. Responsibilities:
Plan, direct, and coordinate the activities of the purchasing department, ensuring effective buying, selling, and distribution of materials, equipment, and services.
Develop and implement purchasing and contract management instructions, policies, and procedures that align with the organization's goals.
Analyze market trends and delivery systems to assess present and future material availability, ensuring the organization's supply needs are met.
Oversee the control of purchasing department budgets, ensuring cost-effectiveness and value in all purchasing activities.
Direct and coordinate activities of personnel, fostering an environment of teamwork and communication within the organization.
Oversee the recruitment and training of purchasing staff, ensuring a skilled and effective team.
Contribute to the development and approval of specifications for equipment, products, or substitute materials.
Manage the processing of weekly supply orders and review capital expenditures for compliance with regulations and procedures.
Generate and prepare necessary reports, including those related to capital expenditures, utilization, and merchandise costs.
Resolve vendor or contractor grievances and claims against suppliers in a timely and detail oriented manner.
Review purchase order claims and contracts for conformance to company policy, ensuring all procurement activities are carried out according to established guidelines.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field is preferred
7+ years of experience in procurement, with at least 3 years in a leadership role, ideally in healthcare or a similar industry.
Strong negotiation, contract management, and vendor relationship skills.
Knowledge of healthcare regulations and standards related to procurement and supply chain.
Proficiency in procurement software and tools.
Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment while managing multiple priorities.
