Jones Power is seeking to hire an Associate Estimator whose role will support estimating and project proposal functions in multiple regions for the division. This is a mid-level position with a civil construction focus. Estimating experience in other related environments is a plus as well as prior experience in business development.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Assists department in preparing cost estimates assuring that all necessary costs are detailed and included in the estimate, such as management services, equipment, and material costs, construction costs, operating costs, and other costs associated with Civil Projects
Know and be able to explain the details behind each estimate, including the basis of the man-hours allocated for each task, personnel resources needed to execute each task, etc
Maintains lines of communications between company departments, project managers, and clients regarding cost estimating activities
Assists project manager with alternative project execution approaches based on the scope of work and the most cost-effective execution methods available
Provides timely quotes (margin, profit, and quote sheet)
Other tasks include but are not limited to preparing process flow diagrams, datasheets, and technical job reports
Identifying bid opportunities, visiting project sites, and attending pre-bid meetings
Monitoring project progress and creating project status reports for project managers and stakeholders
Scheduling stakeholder meetings and facilitating communication between the project manager and stakeholders throughout the project life cycle
Support team members when implementing risk management strategies
Research Material and procure quotes for materials
Communicate with suppliers and subcontractors to discuss project details and request proposals
Perform quantity takeoffs of drawings
Qualifications
High School Diploma; A Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Science, or Construction Management, or in other related discipline
Minimum 1-2 years Estimating experience desired, preferably for civil work
Basic knowledge of building and construction
Ability to read and understand specifications and drawings
Organizational skills
Critical thinking and ability to quickly learn new concepts
Demonstrated ability to work in fast-paced environment desired
Ability to work individually as well as in a team setting
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Ability to work in stressful situations
Ability to manage multiple deadlines
Working knowledge of construction costs and principles
