Current year-round internships are available in Las Vegas, for full time IT Engineering students starting immediately.

The NV Energy Internship program is designed to ensure that it will challenge students with meaningful work, expose them to a career in the energy industry, and help them transition from academics to the workforce. Successful completion of an intern position can put a student on the fast track to a full-time career with NV Energy, following graduation.

The goal of our internship program is to give students real world experience. Candidate must be a self-starter, flexible, a quick learner, highly motivated and a good team player. Accordingly, you must possess strong communication, interpersonal, organizational, problem solving and decision-making skills.

Successful students can build upon their existing skills and explore valuable careers in a variety of areas such as Network Engineer, Systems Engineers, Programmers/Developer, and System Analyst.

Key Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Work as part of a team to provide engineering support to ensure reliability, availability, efficiency and functionality of all equipment, processes and projects
  • Assist in basic engineering tasks of design, evaluation, problem solving, analysis, and planning to support power transmission and distribution, plant operations and/or maintenance
  • Comply with safety policy and procedures to ensure a safe working environment
  • Interface with IT staff, IT operations & application software groups, and other personnel to ensure consistent, practical, and effective IT solutions
  • Participate in special projects and IT team assignments as requested
  • Data entry, sample collection, and preparation of applications and reports

Other duties may be assigned.

All students must provide transcripts and verification of college/university enrollment in order to begin or continue employment.

All students must be available to work the following schedule:

  • Summer: 20 - 40 hours per week
  • School Year: minimum of 12 up to a maximum of 20 hours per week

Requirements

Essential Education, Skills, and Environment

Education and Work Experience

Currently enrolled in an accredited Bachelors of Engineering or Management Information Systems program with a minimum accumulative GPA of 2.75. Must be a full-time student with a minimum load of 12 units. Previous work experience is desired but not required.

All students must provide transcripts and verification of college/university enrollment in order to begin or continue employment.

Specialized Knowledge and Skills

Proficient with Microsoft Office products, programming languages and Visio is preferred.

Understanding of basic computer architecture and software development concepts.

Equipment and Applications

PCs, Word processing, Spreadsheet and Database software

Work Environment and Physical Demands

General office environment No special physical demands required. May be required to travel to field locations and job sites and walk on uneven/unpaved ground.

Compensation

$17.00 - $27.00 per hour. This is a non-represented position.
