Job Description:

SUMMARY


The Occupational Health Branch (OHB) of the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) is recruiting for a Research Associate (RA) to assist the Occupational Health Branch with data collection, processing, and presentation of data in an occupational health context related to COVID-19 and related conditions, especially due to the impact of indoor air quality on workers.


The RA will join a multidisciplinary team of epidemiologists, industrial hygienists, health educators, physicians, and other scientific staff in understanding the role of indoor air quality on the transmission of COVID-19 and development of other occupational respiratory illnesses.


The RA will be responsible for data processing, cleaning, and analysis of data from public health surveillance and research projects. Additional responsibilities will include literature review and summary, preparation of reports in conjunction with epidemiology colleagues, and occasional assistance in preparation of abstracts and figures for research presentations and manuscripts. The RA will assist in interpreting data for distribution to and education of impacted workers, employers, and the general public as appropriate.


Occasional review and abstracting of medical records, physician reports, and other electronic data sources may be required. Additional related duties may be assigned as appropriate for the RA’s level of training and experience related to occupational health.


This position is grant funded through 6/30/2026.


The hourly range for this position is $26.44 - $30.29 per hour depending on experience/ qualifications.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS



  • Track and clean data from various sources, conduct basic analyses, and interpret findings.

  • Perform data entry, quality control, and/or processing of information.

  • Assist with distribution of results, as well as distribution of guidance and protocols for worker safety.

  • Other duties to support the team as assigned.


JOB QUALIFICATIONS



  • Excellent writing and communication skills

  • Attention to detail and organizational skills

  • Competence with Windows operating system and Microsoft Office applications

  • Experience in research or public health is a plus

  • Ability to work independently

  • Ability to work as part of a team

  • Good judgment and ability to think logically


Education/Experience



  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant field required; Master Degree in Public Health or related field, preferred

  • Knowledge of occupational exposure and health, environmental toxicants, and/or air quality, is a plus


Other Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities



  • Knowledge of and skilled in the use of Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel, Access, Outlook, and Power Point, and remote technologies such as Zoom and MS Teams
