Veteran Success Coordinator at University of Oklahoma in Norman, Oklahoma

Job Description:

We're currently looking for a new team member in our Norman office to serve as Veteran Success Coordinator. We need someone who exhibits:

Essential Duties:



  • Designs, implements, and manages designated student programs and services.

  • Assists with Veteran Success Center Program planning, development, and delivery.

  • Works with Access and Opportunity Marketing & Communications representative to develop promotional materials and marketing strategies for the Veteran Success Center and veteran-focused outreach materials.

  • Assists with grant preparation.

  • Plans and coordinates activities, events, resources, and outreach for the Veteran Success Center military support projects and events. 

  • Researches, collects, and analyzes data or information and prepares reports or responses to inquiries.

  • Serves as liaison and point of contact for offices on and off campus, including the Student Veterans Association Chapter and Peer Advisors for Veteran Education (PAVE) Program in support of goals, needs, events, training, and community service projects.

    • Visits military bases, guard units, and community-based partnerships.

  • Provides information and counseling to students, facilitating support groups, and advising student organizations.

    • Assists with student inquiries regarding challenges following military service and develops a close connection to retention and behavioral intervention resources. 

    • Advocates for, mentors, and connects veterans to campus services including admissions assistance, academic advising and support, financial aid, goal setting assistance, career assessment, career involvement, and study skills development.

  • Resolves academic problems and evaluates students for proper placement in class levels.

  • Conducts workshops, seminars, classes, and other special programs for students.

  • Oversees data and record maintenance, to include but not limited to student files, inventory, personnel, and other office files.

  • Attends events or meetings and serves on committees.

  • May assist in the management of day-to-day operations or supervise program staff.

  • Promotes the OU Green Zone Faculty/Staff Training Program and utilizes Green Zone members for veteran referrals. 

  • Performs various duties as needed to successfully fulfill the function of the position.

Required Education: Bachelor's degree, AND:



  • 12 months in student programming, student services, or closely related experience.

Equivalency/Substitution: Will accept 48 months related experience in lieu of the Bachelor's degree for a total of 60 months experience.


Skills:



  • Ability to communicate verbally and in writings.

  • Composition and proofreading skills.

  • Computer skills, including proficiency in navigating and maintaining databases.

  • Detail oriented for accuracy of data and information.

  • Highly organized and ability to handle multiple projects and deadlines.

  • Must be able to work in a multi-tasked high-volume environment.

  • Demonstrated ability to interact favorably with faculty, administrators, students, and the public.

  • Excellent communication skills, strong customer service orientation, and the ability to interact with a wide variety of people in a friendly, professional manner.

  • Ability to read and interpret policy as well as State and Federal regulations.

  • Ability to perceive where discretion is necessary and maintain the strictest confidentiality.

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Department Preferences:



  • Experience serving in the U.S. Armed Forces.

  • Student services experience, specifically military-connected student populations.

  • Experience with grant programs.

  • Supervisory experience.

  • Experience working in a team-based environment.

  • Experience with student information systems.

  • Proficiency in using computer software such as Microsoft Office, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, InDesign, Adobe, Publisher, etc.

  • Knowledge of Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and ethical principles in working with students.
