Job Description:

Work as a member of the research and development team to perform functions such as design, building prototypes, troubleshooting, testing, documentation, component inspection, problem solving, and other duties as assigned.

Semester


  • Ability to begin work this summer and possibly into the 2025 - 2026 school year.

Professional Qualifications Education
Must be pursuing, or have completed, an undergraduate degree in mechanical engineering or a closely related field. A junior status or higher in college preferred.
Experience


  • Prior experience in an industrial engineering, research, or academic laboratory setting is desirable but not necessary.

Position Responsibilities Specific

  • Learn and apply the product development and documentation methods and processes utilized at LI-COR. This includes but is not limited to 3D CAD, simulation, and other analysis tools.
  • Participate in the design, development, prototyping, testing, troubleshooting and general support of LI-COR instrumentation.
  • Specific duties will be assigned based on the individual's capabilities, experience and education. Examples can include, but are not limited to:

    • Have partial to full responsibility for the design, development, testing and documentation of a product or part of a product.
    • Design, specify, build, and verify assembly and test fixtures for new and existing products.
    • Troubleshoot components, subsystems, and systems. Verify and validate results.
    • Design, document, and execute tests for qualification of products using internal and external testing resources. Write meaningful summaries and interpretations.
    • Construct and/or modify functional and non-functional prototypes with engineering guidance.
    • Assist engineers with a variety of tasks during the product design and development process.
    • Create, maintain, and edit engineering documentation such as bills of materials, mechanical drawings, 3D models, and assembly plans.

General


  • Occasional travel may be necessary.
  • Software training will be provided as necessary.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned.
