The City of Ellensburg is hiring Temporary Laborers for the 2025 season.

JOB SUMMARY:

Perform a variety of entry-level and semi-skilled maintenance and repair procedures, in a safe and efficient manner, for the Street, Water, Wastewater, and Parks Divisions.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily while adhering to City of Ellensburg operational policies, safety rules, and procedures. This position requires regular and consistent attendance to accomplish the following essential functions:

Parks Division (weekend hours required):

Assist in preparation of ballfields by performing dirt work using a rototiller, sandpro, gator, shovel, rake, and chalker
Assist with landscaping maintenance including pruning, tree trimming, laying sod and grass seed, pulling weeds, planting flowers and trees, watering, turf mowing, and leaf cleanup.
Clean parks and restrooms.
Repair fences, vandalism, and picnic tables.
Haul various items such as picnic tables, backstops, and bleachers by using truck and trailer.
Assist with maintenance of sprinkler system.
Street Division:

Assist with crackfill and chipseal of streets and alleys; remove and replace asphalt and concrete; paint streets; perform traffic control (flagging).
Repair and replace portable barricades and no park signs; sign maintenance.
Clean storm drains and creek catch racks.
Mow weeds on City property and street shoulders; trim trees.
Collect data for mapping purposes using an iPad and GPS device.
Water Division:

Assist with setting meter boxes; change meters; move dirt/debris with shovel as needed.
Mow and trim turf and weeds surrounding well houses and reservoirs.
Paint hydrants.
Collect data for mapping purposes using an iPad and GPS device.
Wastewater:

Lawn care to include mowing, trimming, weeding, and sprinkler repair.
Building maintenance to include cleaning, painting, and washing windows.
Assist with pipe laying and perform video inspection of sewer lines.
Collect data for mapping purposes using an iPad and GPS device.
Other duties may be assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

REQUIRED EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE:

Must be 18 years of age at the time of hire.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

Six (6) months of experience in the operation of hand tools and equipment.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

Valid State Drivers; must maintain an insurable driving record.
Flagging card or ability to obtain within a reasonable timeline as determined by the supervisor.
First Aid/CPR/AED Certification or ability to obtain within a reasonable timeline as determined by the supervisor.
NECESSARY KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

Working knowledge of equipment, facilities, materials, methods, and procedures used in the area/department assigned.
Skill in operation of listed tools and equipment.
Ability to work safely; ability to communicate in a clear, concise manner verbally and in writing; ability to establish and maintain courteous and cooperative working relationships with employees, supervisors, other departments, and the public; ability to understand and carry out written and oral instructions.
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all unites of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules and instructions.
TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED

Tools and equipment may vary depending on assignment. Employees should never use any tool or equipment that they have not been properly trained on.
