Role Summary

We are seeking a Director, Live TV Technology to lead and oversee the technical operations of our live TV delivery system. This is a high-impact, leadership position responsible for managing the design, implementation, and ongoing support of broadcast and streaming technologies that power our live television services. The Director will ensure the seamless delivery of live content to millions of viewers, driving innovation, efficiency, and reliability across our technology infrastructure.

As a key member of the technology leadership team, you will collaborate with internal teams, third-party vendors, and broadcast partners to build and maintain cutting-edge solutions for live TV delivery. You will be responsible for maintaining the highest quality standards for live broadcast, ensuring scalability, and managing the team ensuring the technology roadmap to stay ahead of industry trends.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Technology Strategy & Leadership: Lead the strategy and execution of all technology initiatives related to live TV delivery systems, including broadcast infrastructure, content management, and streaming platforms. Ensure systems are optimized for performance, reliability, and scalability to meet the demands of live programming.

  • Live TV Operations Management:
    Oversee the day-to-day operations of live TV delivery, ensuring seamless content delivery to our worldwide Cruise customer base. Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues to ensure minimal disruption during live broadcasts.

  • System Design & Integration:
    Design, implement, and optimize the architecture of live TV delivery systems, including end-to-end workflow solutions for content ingestion, processing, packaging, and distribution. Manage integration with third-party systems such as playout servers, encoders, transcoders, and cloud-based services.
  • Team Leadership & Development:
    Lead and manage a team of engineers, technologists, and support staff. Foster a collaborative, innovative environment that encourages professional growth and high performance. Provide guidance, mentorship, and technical leadership to junior team members.
  • Vendor Management & Partnerships:
    Build and maintain relationships with key technology vendors and service providers, negotiating contracts, managing service-level agreements (SLAs), and ensuring that third-party solutions meet our standards for quality and reliability.
  • Project Management & Innovation:
    Lead cross-functional teams in the execution of major projects, including technology upgrades, system migrations, and new feature rollouts. Drive innovation by evaluating emerging technologies such as 5G, cloud broadcast solutions, and LEO driven broadcast delivery.
  • Quality Assurance & Compliance:
    Ensure that all technology systems comply with relevant industry standards and regulations. Implement robust monitoring, testing, and troubleshooting protocols to guarantee high-quality, uninterrupted service.
  • Budget & Resource Management:
    Develop and manage budgets for the technology department, ensuring the efficient allocation of resources. Oversee procurement of hardware, software, and services while staying within budget constraints.

What We’re Looking For

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, Engineering, Broadcast Technology, or a related field. A master's degree is a plus.

  • At least 7-10 years of experience in technology leadership roles within the broadcast or live TV delivery industry.

  • Certifications related to broadcast technology, cloud platforms, or project management (e.g., PMP) are a plus.

  • Extensive experience with live broadcast systems, video encoding, content delivery networks (CDN), and streaming technologies (OTT, VOD).

  • Strong understanding of video broadcast standards (e.g., MPEG, HLS, RTMP) and protocols.

  • Proven track record of managing complex technical projects, from concept to deployment.

  • Expertise in video and audio signal processing, playout systems, broadcast automation, and live event production technology.

  • Direct experience with cloud-based media workflows and technologies (AWS, Zixi, etc.) for video delivery and storage.

  • Familiarity with media asset management (MAM) and content distribution systems.

  • Proficiency in broadcast network infrastructure, IP-based video delivery, and satellite technologies.

  • Strong understanding of security protocols for content protection and system integrity.

  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams and influence stakeholders at all levels.

  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills, especially under pressure during live events.

  • Exceptional communication skills with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.

  • Ability to stay current with evolving broadcast and streaming technology trends.

  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

  • Familiarity with budgeting and cost management for technology initiatives.
