Job Description:

Job Purpose:

The Director of Concrete will provide executive level leadership responsible for growing a sustainable market for structural, shotcrete, and site concrete work for both Andersen Construction and external clients.

Key Areas of Focus:
  • Collaborate with Executive and Regional Leadership to develop long term and annual business planning for concrete planning at regional levels.
  • Develop and implement strategies for obtaining new project opportunities. Identify potential clients and project leads in targeted segments, research background data, prioritize pursuits with Project Executives and Business Development Leads, and coordinate with Marketing and Preconstruction Groups.
  • Understanding that every region has its unique challenges; work collectively with regional leadership to develop high performing teams that are in line with our core values.
  • Standardize processes, procedures and communicate best practices with regional leadership. Provide oversight and accountability to regional leaders during preconstruction process for concrete projects from planning and estimating perspective.
  • Provide oversight, support and accountability to regional teams on projects underway. Standardize reporting processes across all regions.
  • Support the Regional Operations Managers, General Superintendents, and Concrete Division Managers in the recruitment, hiring, and mentoring of field and office staff responsible for self-perform operations. Holds a leading responsibility for the financial prosperity of the company.
  • Actively pursue Business Development opportunities for subcontracted concrete work outside of Andersen Construction Self Perform work, and that is in line with our annual Business Plan.
  • Recognizing that the organizational and behavioral structure is different for self-perform work and subcontracted work; develop and communicate processes and expectations on how Andersen Construction executes work in both scenarios.

Location:
  • Preferably Portland (consideration for Eugene, Seattle, or Boise)
  • Ability to regularly travel between jobsites, client and design offices and other occasional business- related travel

Qualifications:
  • 4-year college degree in Construction Management, Architecture, Engineering, or related field (preferred)
  • 7+ years construction field experience with emphasis on self-performed work
  • Survey/Layout and BIM Experience (preferred)
  • Ability to use the following software and platforms: Microsoft Office Suite, Timberline Estimating Software, On-Screen Takeoff, Procore, CMIC

Responsibilities:

General:
  • Demonstrate value of concrete work and what it means to the success of the project and the organization. Foster a strong bond between the entire project team to ensure unity of our approach and success of the self-perform work.
  • Keeps current with industry leading practices, form systems, tools, and materials.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with major vendors and suppliers.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with external clients and plays an integral part of the team in pursuits of new opportunities.
  • Support regional leaders in the recruitment, hiring, mentoring and retention of employees in a manner to adequately staff concrete projects.
  • Mentor regional leadership through job start-up and ongoing operations.
  • Mentor concrete staff on labor and production tracking, budget analysis and forecasting.
  • Coordinate with the Regional General Superintendent to maintain the highest performing field crews.

Preconstruction:
  • Support and standardize regional leaders in estimating process for concrete work with accurate takeoff and current productivity rates.
  • Manage and review and apply all current productivity rates from regions.
  • Evaluate all new concrete self-perform and subcontract opportunities; evaluate risk on a go/no go basis.
  • Identify and develop others in concrete estimating proficiency.
  • Evaluate and advise on selection of forming systems and processes to the regional leadership.
  • Collaborate with regional leadership on required concrete schedule, durations and sequencing.
  • Collaborate with regional leadership site logistics planning, scheduling, safety planning, formwork planning.
  • Work with all regions to standardize detailing and layout processes with a focus on continual innovation and improvement.

Construction:
  • Review and provide input on regional concrete financial and risk metrics. Attend project specific project reviews.
  • Leads effort in drafting PAs, Subcontracts and Rental/Service Agreements for self-perform subcontractors.
  • Set quality control expectations and standardized processes. Hold regional team accountable to identified standards.
  • Standardize cross regional budget set-up template.
  • Participate in monthly labor production tracking meetings for all projects.
  • Support project team as needed.

Compensation:
