Working as a Data Scientist at Verisk means:

• Applying a variety of analytic methodologies including Predictive Modeling, Machine Learning, Forecasting, Network Analytics, Natural Language Processing, Computer Vision, and Voice and Speech Analytics to develop solutions to those business problems


• Working with a diverse set of extremely rich datasets such as 19 billion detailed records of insurance premiums collected and losses paid, 90%+ of Insurance Claims in the US, 95%+ of Credit Cards transactions in the US and UK, 7 million+ Safety Data Sheets, and Information on 3 million+ oil and gas wells


• Seeing your work result in new products, product enhancements, consulting revenue, or internal process improvements on a regular basis


• Working with cutting-edge technology, and continuously developing new skills and capabilities

Working in Verisk's "Liability Navigator" (LNAV) Claims Group involves:

• Being part of a mature product (20+ years) that helps insurance companies increase consistency in Bodily Injury claim payments.


• Develop and monitor Bodily Injury claim settlement models for our growing roster of clients.


• Prepare and execute client reports by leveraging a variety of existing modelling tools and processes


• Help modernizing LNAV's analytic offerings (moving to python) to scale with a growing client base.

• Bachelor's degree in a quantitative field; Masters preferred


• Analysis skills: Eagerness to understand the business domain in which we operate (BI claims handling). Tenacious mindset... with fluency to organize/manipulate data to answer business questions.


• Modeling fundamentals: Conceptual understanding of how to build/monitor models is more important than being an expert in a particular model form.


• Report Writing


• Python familiarity: Team is moving analytics from legacy apps to python-based tooling. Comfortable with jupyter notebooks strongly encouraged (familiarity with class design and package development is a huge bonus).


• SQL Database familiarity: Ability to write basic SQL queries


• Client-facing experience: We're regularly asked to present results to non-technical customers/prospects. Not a "day 1" requirement, but desire folks that would eventually be comfortable/competent in this area.


• Strong communication (written and oral) skills; attention to detail.


• Exposure to the property & casualty industry is desirable
