The Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) oversees nursing assistants and ensures quality patient care in compliance with facility policies, regulations, and best practices. This role involves administrative duties, direct patient care, medication administration, and collaboration with healthcare teams to maintain high standards of resident well-being.
Key Responsibilities
Administrative Duties
Supervise daily activities of nursing assistants in accordance with facility guidelines.
Ensure compliance with written policies and procedures.
Review and recommend updates to department policies and manuals.
Plan and oversee shift services, programs, and activities.
Complete required reports, records, evaluations, and documentation.
Participate in quality assurance programs and facility inspections.
Assist with resident admissions, transfers, and discharges.
Charting & Documentation
Maintain accurate and up-to-date resident records.
Document physician orders, medication administration, and resident progress.
Report and record incidents, accidents, and care discrepancies.
Ensure compliance with charting and documentation protocols.
Medication Administration
Prepare and administer prescribed medications safely and accurately.
Verify resident identity before administering treatments.
Maintain accurate narcotic records and report discrepancies.
Ensure proper handling and disposal of medications per regulations.
Personnel Management
Assist in staff evaluations, scheduling, and performance oversight.
Ensure nursing assistants meet training and certification requirements.
Provide leadership, training, and support to assigned staff.
Enforce facility policies, procedures, and safety regulations.
Resident Care & Support
Assist with resident admissions and orientation.
Coordinate with physicians for treatment plans and medical needs.
Monitor residents' physical and emotional well-being.
Provide direct nursing care, including wound care, catheterization, and therapy services.
Respond to resident and family concerns professionally and compassionately.
Safety & Compliance
Ensure adherence to infection control protocols and safety standards.
Participate in emergency response and disaster preparedness.
Monitor equipment use and report maintenance needs.
Follow state and federal healthcare regulations.
Qualifications
Education: Graduate of an accredited LVN program or equivalent.
Licensure: Active, unencumbered LVN license in CA.
Certifications: Current CPR certification; PCC experience preferred.
Skills: Strong leadership, problem-solving, and communication abilities.
Physical Requirements: Ability to lift 25 lbs., move intermittently, and handle emotional or physically demanding situations.
Work Environment
Works in various healthcare settings (nurses' stations, patient rooms, administrative offices).
May encounter emotionally challenging situations with residents and families.
