• Monday thru Friday, 8am to 4:30pm or 7 am to 3:30 pm


Core Responsibilities:

Radiation Therapy Technologist to perform the requirements of this contract which will include but not limited to the following services:

• Technologist must adhere to Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) regulations involved in handling and treating patients with ionizing radiation, and all radiation safety guidelines. Policies and procedures of the Radiation Oncology Service which are consistent with ASTRO/APEx guidelines. This will include but not limited to all necessary data required to maintain the Radiation Oncology Quality Improvement Program. All ROS guidelines shall be made available by the Supervisory Therapist, Chief, Radiation Oncology Services or designee will make available.

• Shall receive and interpret prescriptions/instructions from the treating physician and carry out complex assignments while under general supervision of the Supervisory Radiation Therapist.

• Technologist shall prepare imaging, simulation, treatment and ancillary equipment for patient use. This involves recording a series of measurements, including checks of the radiation field, to ensure basic specifications are met on a daily basis.

• Shall maintain appropriate markings on patients' skin to facilitate exact positioning for desired results and cushions/shields patients as appropriate. Procedures will be explained to patients securing the confidence & cooperation of patients, explain procedures while following ALARA principles.

• Operate imaging and radiation equipment.

• Shall limit radiation field by the use of lead cut outs or collimation. May assist Radiation Oncologists with block construction requiring ability to design and construct Cerrobend or MLC blocks according to physician's direction and designs according to beams-eye-view treatment planning.

• Shall position patients in the CT scanner and acquire specific data sets prescribed by the physicist or physician. Acquires the necessary tumor volume to be used in treatment planning. Gives the C.T.'s to the Radiation Oncologist for tumor volumes to be outlined. Contractor sets technical factors for radiotherapy procedures. Contractor will set-up and operate accessory equipment.

• Responsible for ensuring that supplies and materials are present and operational.

• Must be capable of producing radiographs incorporating the information required for the prescription, treatment planning, field shaping, and initial set-up of the patient.

• Contractor's employee shall ensure departmental and/or hospital policies are followed.

• Shall perform timeout procedure and positively identify each patient before providing treatment.

• Shall maintain records of patients treated, therapy performed, and technical factors used.

• Shall enter daily treatment notes into patients' medical records using Computerized Patient Record System (CPRS) within local guidelines (within 24 hours of treatment).

• Shall perform related clerical duties. Report any out of the ordinary incidents or problems that are encountered to Chief Therapeutic Radiologic Technologist.

• ADMINISTRATIVE: shall attend service staff meetings as required by the VA Chief, Radiation Oncology Service, COS or designee.


Requirements:

• Must be graduate of an approved program in Therapeutic

Radiologic Technology, evidence by an associate degree or higher from

an accredited institution by the JRCERT and certification by the ARRT in

radiation therapy. The qualifications of such personnel shall be subject to

review by the VA Chief of Staff and approval by the VA Facility Director.

• One (1) year of experience - Knowledge of overall characteristics

and clinical relevance of radiation oncology treatment machines

and equipment. Experience with Varian linear accelerators is preferred.

• One (1) year of experience - Delivery of prescribed therapeutic

radiation for the purposes of cancer and abnormal cell growth treatments.

One (1) year of experience – in 3-dimensional conformal radiation

therapy (3D-CRT), Intensity-Modulated radiation therapy (IMRT),

• Image-guided radiation therapy (IGRT) and Stereotactic Body

• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or willingness to obtain BLS upon hire.


This job is CONTINGENT upon contract award, client approval, completion of a favorable background investigation, and the ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust / High Risk clearance.
