Department Information



The IU Simon Comprehensive Cancer Center (IUSCCC) is 1 of only 57 National Cancer Institute (NCI)-designated Comprehensive Cancer Centers in the United States. This prestigious designation recognizes centers around the country that meet rigorous criteria for world-class, state-of-the-art programs in multidisciplinary research. The IUSCCC puts significant resources into developing research programs, faculty, and facilities that will lead to better approaches to prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of cancer.

The Biospecimen Collection and Banking Core supports cancer research by providing comprehensive biospecimen management including collection, storage, distribution, and annotation.



Job Summary




  • Coordinates and ensures proper processing of samples for the biorepository laboratory
  • Sets priorities for sample processing
  • Verifies data and supporting material is properly uploaded to databases
  • Trains new employees per process standard operating procedures (SOPs)
  • Ensures SOPs are up to date and creates new SOPs as needed
  • Maintains specimen tracking and data entry for sample processing
  • Reviews sample reports and identifies specimens requiring troubleshooting or replacements

EDUCATION / WORK EXPERIENCE



Required



  • Bachelor's degree preferably in biology, chemistry, or biotechnology plus 4 years of laboratory experience


Preferred



  • Master's degree preferably in biology, chemistry, or biotechnology plus 1 year of laboratory experience

Working Conditions / Demands



The role regularly requires the ability to effectively communicate. The role frequently requires the ability to move about the work environment and to position oneself to operate laboratory equipment effectively. The role requires the ability to move objects weighing up to 25 pounds and will occasionally work near moving mechanical parts. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.
