Sr. Manager of Philanthropic Partnerships

The USA TODAY NETWORK is seeking a mission-driven, creative and collaborative team member to drive development of philanthropic partnerships that both bolster local journalism and create new opportunities to serve readers, viewers and listeners in communities nationwide.

This is an extraordinary role at a critical moment. The recently launched transformation of Gannett's Content Team is delivering a return to growth in the size of the audience we serve, a key contributor to engineering a sustainable business model for local journalism across the country.

In this role, the Sr. Manager of Philanthropic Partnerships will be responsible for executing a strategy that delivers significant new funding for community newsrooms. The successful candidate will have experience raising funds and developing long-term partnerships and relationships with foundations and charitable organizations. The Sr. Manager will be an excellent listener who is connected to what our newsrooms are excited about and can build a process to support them while working closely with colleagues to deliver the financial outcomes intended.

They will be part of a team dedicated to identifying and executing philanthropic funding opportunities, as well as help to build the workflow and processes for the team and the broader organization to scale philanthropic revenue more than 2x in 2025.

This role will be part of the Content Monetization team under the Sr. Director of Philanthropic Partnerships.

This role is remote and can be based anywhere in the US, except for Alaska and Hawaii.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate closely with Sr. Director and Network newsroom colleagues to identify, assess, and drive opportunities.
  • Assist in securing institutional support as a part of ambitious company-wide revenue goals.
  • Serve as a key advisor to newsrooms looking to kickstart, cultivate and manage their philanthropic partnerships.
  • Responsible for creating presentations, decks and collateral pieces for impactful reporting.
  • Be meticulous in prospect reporting and tracking relationships in the CRM utilized by the team .
  • Conduct donor research, identify potential new funding sources, produce briefing materials for meetings, and ensure timely documentation and follow-up.
  • Oversee maintenance of comprehensive donor records, coordinate funding requests, prep donor material.
  • Maintain a grant management system for tracking of deadlines of proposals, reports and other submissions, and keep all stakeholders involved in the process .
  • Track monthly and annual fundraising revenue goals by identifying current supporters and viable prospect opportunities to meet current operational needs and plans for expansion. Supporters include individuals, foundations and possible corporations .
  • Own the philanthropic partnerships team's meetings, including the agenda, notes, and follow-ups and liaise with fundraising staff within local newsrooms.


Requirements:

  • Bachelor's or master's degree in journalism or any other subject or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • At least 5 years of experience in development, grant writing and administration
  • Ideal candidates will have extensive knowledge in media and journalism landscape and have pre-existing relationships with philanthropic and non-profits active in supporting journalism.
  • Familiarity with Salesforce as well as basic accounting practices and programs.

    The annualized base salary for this role will range between $80,000 and $100,000. Variable compensation is not reflected in these figures and based on the role, may be applicable. Exact compensation may vary based on skills, experience, location, and union representation, if applicable.
