Job Summary
Department-Specific Responsibilities
Meets individually with students to advise regarding their law school academic and co-curricular experience, including personal counseling matters that relate to academic progress and mental health.
Works with Associate Dean of Student Services to identify and counsel students of concern; gather data and identify trends to guide future efforts.
Engages in intense period of academic counseling before registration and coordinates related resources, such as info sessions and student planning documents.
Serves as academic advisor for all international students (F-1 and J-1) for CPT and OPT applications. Coordinates an info session with the Office for International Services each semester.
Advises students on their bar exam preparedness and bar applications.
Creates and presents programs related to wellness, academic success, co-curricular opportunities, and bar preparedness.
Primary planner of JD student orientation. Organizes incoming 1Ls into course sections and Practice Groups.
Key part of graduation planning team. Works with Maurer Events office and IU Auditorium to plan recognition events; creates and supports student Graduation Committee; communicates graduation details to students. Works with vendor to create Class composite photo.
Plans, implements, and supervises the Practice Group Program, including selection, training, overseeing, and regularly meeting with Practice Group Advisors (24 peer mentors for first-year law students).
Administers Access to Justice Pro Bono Fellows Program. Selects and supervises AJP Fellows. Supports annual pro bono programming, hours tracking, and recognitions of pro bono service at graduation.
Selects, trains, and supervises Office for Student Affairs Fellows and International Student Ambassadors.
Communicates regularly with the student body to advertise events, remind about deadlines, and offer services. Maintains Student Services canvas page, Instagram account, and associated resources.
Maintains relationships with JLAP, CAPS, and other student wellbeing resources.
Represents law school to NALSAP, AccessLex, and other external stakeholders.
Serves on various internal, campus, and professional committees.
Compiles data related to student bar passage and prepares the annual ABA Bar Admission Questionnaire each February.
Collaborates with various Maurer offices to provide effective program management and student support.
General Responsibilities
Develops and implements programs and initiatives that touch on various/multiple student-related goals, such as enhancing and reinforcing academic engagement and experiential learning; increasing student engagement, wellness, and involvement; fostering learning, inclusion, and development; supporting students in crisis and adversity; and improving the student campus experience.
Interfaces directly with students by attending student programming events, advising student organization leaders, meeting 1-on-1 to discuss areas of concern on campus, and gathering satisfaction feedback from student participants to implement into future student services initiatives and objectives.
Collaborates with staff in own department and other departments, as well as academic and campus leaders, on shared student services goals, often coordinating funding to sponsor student programs and initiatives.
Projects outcomes for services offered at the program, department/division, or campus level. Measures and evaluates effectiveness of student services against projected outcomes; regularly prepares reports on impact to students and budget and presents to stakeholders on effectiveness and to secure funding for initiatives moving forward.
Serves on committees and performs student services research across the field of higher education and at peer institutions to identify and recommend best practices.
Plans and coordinates communications for student services initiatives to ensure student participation and engagement.
May provide guidance to other student services staff; makes process recommendations to manager for improved delivery of service.
May serve on various campus or cross-functional committees to share student services best practices.

EDUCATION
Required
Bachelor's degree in public affairs, counseling, social work, education, business, or related field
Preferred
Juris doctorate (J.D.), or Master's degree in higher education, student affairs, or related field

Working Conditions / Demands
This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus.
