Job Description:

The Cloud Engineer will develop, design, and recommend infrastructure solutions as they pertain to our cloud environment. The Cloud Engineer will also focus on Cloud standards development and cost management utilizing expertise in the cloud computing platforms of Microsoft Azure and Amazon Web Services (AWS). Responsibilities will include documenting standards, optimizing costs, and developing and implementing cost-effective strategies across the enterprise, including monitoring of cloud utilization. This role is expected to be a technical thought leader to our cloud environment.



Responsibilities:



  • Cloud Infrastructure Design & Management: Design, implement, and maintain highly available, secure, and scalable cloud infrastructure on Microsoft Azure using services such as VMs, various Azure services, Azure functions, storage tiers, and SQL database.

  • Standards for Cloud Engineering: Develop cloud engineering standards and support enterprise communication of these standards

  • Collaboration & Advisory: Serve as a technical thought leader on recommendations, solutions, and implementations as they pertain to our cloud environment; and collaborate with the appropriate technology and leadership teams

  • Cloud Cost Optimization: Continuously monitor and analyze cloud resource usage and spending using tools such as Azure cost management, Azure pricing calculator, and Azure advisor, and FinOps tools such as Harness. Collaborate with the managed service provider (MSP) to identify cost-saving opportunities, implement policies to optimize resource consumption, and control unnecessary expenditure.

  • Cost Allocation & Reporting: Establish cost allocation tags, budgets, and detailed cost reports for various teams, departments, and projects. Provide transparent reporting on cloud spending and cost projections.

  • Automation & Infrastructure as Code: Leverage Azure Resource Manager (ARM) templates, Terraform, Azure DevOps, or Bicep to automate infrastructure provisioning, scaling, and cost-related processes; implement automated cost control practices.

  • Cost Efficiency Strategy: Collaborate with development, architecture, operations teams and managed service provider to recommend and implement cost-effective practices.

  • Monitoring & Alerts: Implement cost monitoring and anomaly detection using Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, and Azure Application Insights to set up alerts on resource utilization, cost spikes, and budget thresholds.

  • Security & Compliance: Ensure security and compliance best practices are followed while optimizing for cost. Implement Identity and Access Management (IAM) controls, encryption, and other cloud security policies to safeguard resources.

  • Continuous Learning: Stay up to date with the latest Azure solutions, services and best practices as they emerge.

  • Appropriately identifies and assesses risk when business decisions are made, including but not limited to compliance and operational risks

  • Demonstrates consideration for Cenlar's reputation as well as our clients, by driving compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations, adhering to Policy, applying sound ethical judgment regarding personal behavior, conduct and business practices, and escalating, managing and reporting control issues.


Qualifications:



  • Bachelor of Science in Computer Science or related field required or equivalent work experience

  • Experience: 8+ years of hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure cloud services, including but not limited to VMs, AKS, Azure Functions and services, SQL Database, Storage tiers, Virtual Network, and Azure Active Directory.

  • Expertise in Azure Cost Management, Azure Pricing Calculator, Azure Advisor, and cost management features within the Azure portal.

  • Proven track record of reducing cloud spending through strategic cost management initiatives such as right-sizing, reserved instances, serverless technologies, and scaling solutions.

  • Solid experience with Azure Resource Manager (ARM) templates, Terraform, Bicep, or Azure DevOps for automating infrastructure deployment and managing cost-efficient configurations.

  • Proficiency in scripting languages such as PowerShell, Python, or Bash for automating cloud resource management and cost-saving measures.

  • Experience with Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, LogicMonitor and Application Insights for cloud resource monitoring, logging, and anomaly detection.

  • Security & Compliance Knowledge: Understanding of security best practices within Azure, such as role-based access control (RBAC), Azure Security Center, encryption, and IAM policies.

  • Analytical Skills: Strong analytical abilities to interpret cloud cost data, identify inefficiencies, and provide actionable recommendations to teams and stakeholders.

  • Collaboration Skills: Strong communication and collaboration skills to work with development, finance, and leadership teams to align cloud cost management strategies with business objectives.

  • Experience with Multi-Cloud Environments: Familiarity with managing costs in multi-cloud environments (Azure + AWS, Azure + GCP) is a plus.

  • Data Analytics & Visualization: Experience using data visualization tools like Power BI, Azure Synapse Analytics, or Tableau to create insightful reports and dashboards related to cloud cost and usage trends.

  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills coupled with the ability to recommend and develop process improvement strategies

  • Demonstrated ability in communicating complex subject matter to all levels of the organization including senior leadership
