High school diploma or equivalent, five years of experience in a public health, medical, clinical, or research laboratory and possession of a valid driver’s license and maintenance of a driving record sufficient to maintain insurance under the University of South Alabama. The University of South Alabama’s department of Civil, Coastal, and Environmental Engineering is seeking to hire a Research Technician III. Interested candidates should apply to be considered.
Essential Functions These are the job duties required of the position.
Essential Functions
Assists the coastal research team by managing research equipment, coordinating field visits, and maintaining research vessels and equipment.
Manages field equipment to include wave gages, ADCPs, data sondes, and sedimeters for deployments and retrievals, and servicing (cleaning, liaising with manufacturers, etc.) as well as a fleet of low-cost environmental sensing instruments that are deployed prior to storm events throughout the gulf.
Performs data collection management duties to include scheduling/organizing equipment and personnel to execute project tasks.
Performs data management duties to include quality assurance and quality control, sorting/organizing, and backing up to external and cloud sources.
Prepares basic field reports.
Performs maintenance, operation, and management of research vessels to include jetski, boat, and RV catamaran.
Performs wave flume operation duties to include prepping the flume for experiments, quality assurance and quality control of sensing instruments, data collection, maintenance, and giving university/college sponsored demonstrations.
Engages with stakeholder as needed.
Regular and prompt attendance.
Ability to work schedule as defined and overtime as required.
Related duties as required.
