POSITION SUMMARY
We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Oil and Gas Severance Tax Specialist to join our team. The ideal candidate would have experience with severance tax reporting in multiple states such as Wyoming, Montana, Utah, Texas, Oklahoma, etc. Experience with reporting Federal Backup Withholding to the IRS would be a plus. Strong problem solving, time management, written and verbal communication skills including the ability to communicate to individuals at all levels of the organization are essential along with the ability to work as part of a team.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Prepare and file severance tax returns & state royalties in compliance with state regulations.
Analyze and reconcile severance tax accounts.
Ensure accurate and timely payment of severance taxes and state royalties.
Maintain detailed records of all filings and payments.
Collaborate with internal departments to gather necessary data for tax and royalty filings.
Monitor changes in tax laws and regulations and assess their impact on the company.
Assist in audits and respond to inquiries from state authorities.
Provide guidance and support to other team members on regulatory matters.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
Minimum 2-4 years experience with recent tax processed, concepts, calculations, reporting and payment obligations for various states.
In-depth knowledge of various state severance tax regulations.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Experience with one or more of the following systems: OGSys, Excalibur, Quorom ODA
Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
