Department Purpose
As part of the Global Research & Library group, the US Research & Library team is responsible for supporting fee earners and support staff in respect of their research and resource requirements.
Research work encompasses legal, business and financial work, and continues to evolve to meet the firm's changing needs whilst the Library function manages all information assets and budgets. The group have a global remit supporting all offices within the A&O Shearman network.
Role Purpose
The Research Manager - Transactional is a strategic role that will significantly enhance the efficiency, visibility and effectiveness of our team, especially post- merger. The legacy firms have differing resources and the role will be crucial to facilitate communication and collaboration with the transactional groups, fostering a more integrated approach to our research activities. The role is will also institute a program to develop the team by providing leadership and guidance, ensuring that our research efforts are aligned with the needs of the Corporate, Finance, ENRI, and Capital Markets groups.
Additionally, the Research Manager will be responsible for developing a comprehensive training program tailored to the specific needs of these groups, ensuring that all team members are equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge. By creating best practice guides for conducting transactional research, the role will standardize our methodologies, leading to more consistent and reliable outcomes. Furthermore, the role will involve reporting on key statistics, providing valuable insights that will inform decision-making for the departmental budget and strategy. Overall, this upgrade will not only strengthen our research capabilities but also drive our organization's success in the competitive market.
Role and Responsibilities
The Research Manager- Transactional will work directly with the transactional practices, in a senior research capacity. The post holder will use primary research tools and their corporate and research expertise to deliver key information and advice in support of live transactions.
The Research Manager - Transactional will conduct U.S. Finance, Corporate, Funds and SEC research and identify and retrieve complex and nuanced public and private precedent; identify, summarize, and provide research analysis to support the deal workflow; support attorneys with due diligence projects, including; create corporate dossiers; assist with competitive intelligence searches; monitor clients and trends in support of business generation; summarize and present search findings; assist with transactional research across the globe;
In addition the Research Manager- Transactional will support the future development of the business by: conducting in-depth research and analysis of clients, companies, sectors, industries, technologies, market segments and competitors to aid business and client development efforts; Collaborate with our global team and attorneys to develop effective strategies for definitive searches.
Train attorneys and staff on efficient use of our research tools and report on research statistics for the group, and liaise with the wider support teams to share expertise and knowledge in order to ensure a seamless service to attorneys.
