Rank: Guest Faculty
Tenure Information: Non-Tenure Track
Job Description
The Visual and Studio Arts program at Sarah Lawrence College announces a one year, half-time, guest appointment in Sculpture beginning Fall 2025. Candidates should show enthusiasm for teaching sculpture to a broad range of students with varying degrees of experience as part of a liberal arts curriculum. This faculty member will be on campus 2 days per week teaching one 5-credit studio course each semester with a maximum of fifteen students and one 2-credit “concept class” during the fall semester. The courses will take place on Mondays and Thursdays. This faculty member will propose courses within the field of Sculpture and should incorporate usage of the Sculpture facilities such as the wood shop, metal shop, plaster studio, and kilns.
In addition to regular coursework, students enrolled in the 5-credit course will complete a significant independent project referred to as a ‘Conference Project’, a hallmark of Sarah Lawrence’s educational system. Candidates should have the ability to teach sculpture students of all levels with an interdisciplinary approach.
The committee welcomes artists with a strong foundation in traditional sculpture practices such as ceramics, metals, woodworking, and plaster. The successful candidate will be passionate, inventive, rigorous, and experimental in their approach.
