The Office of Campus Safety is a 24-hour-a-day, seven-days-a-week operation; that may require rotating of shifts.
This position is scheduled for 12 months each year for Part-time hours. The regular schedule is 24 hours per week, working Saturday/Sunday, 12-hour shifts, that are either 6:00 am - 6:00 pm or 6:00 pm - 6:00 am shifts. The shifts are bid upon once a year by seniority.
Perform multiple service functions in the Campus Safety Communications Center to support the general safety of the university community. Receive calls from faculty, staff, students, and visitors and dispatch the appropriate Campus Safety units via radio communications.
Serve as a vital link between the community, the Office of Campus Safety, and all other emergency and non-emergency services available at the university and the surrounding community.
Work with a diverse community performing various activities in support of the community service philosophy.
Receive emergency calls requesting police, fire, or EMS assistance. Determine the appropriate response in accordance with established procedures, policies, and assessment of the situations. Dispatch Public Safety units in response to calls for service.
Maintain a record of all calls and radio traffic by way of the computer-aided dispatch system. Monitor the status of Community Service Officers and other special duty units. Prepare appropriate reports of calls. Receive calls and complaints regarding service and assistance and refer them to the appropriate unit.
Operate telephone equipment, computer-aided dispatch system, alarm control system, CCTV cameras, university access system, and 911 system.
Request back-up assistance from Granville Police/Fire or other outside agencies. Conduct information searches as requested.
Must report to duty in accordance with the university's Emergency Response Plan. Assist in the emergency response efforts, and mobilize other staff members as needed during or immediately following an emergency.
Will work weekends (Saturday/Sunday), and cover the night shift. Be available to work other days outside the normally scheduled shift.
Performs other duties as assigned or requested.
High school graduate or equivalent. Experience in dispatching and answering phone systems. Skills working with computers. Good communication skills both oral and written.
Must have a valid Ohio driver's license, and be insurable through the University.
Be able to sit and stand for long periods.
Able to professionally respond to community needs, including stressful situations and incidents involving young adults who may be impaired as a result of mental health issues or alcohol or drug use.
Must be available to work nights and weekends.
Training in the field of public safety fields.
Prior experience in a university environment.
