POSITION SUMMARY

The MOUD/MAT Nurse provides skilled nursing services to incarcerated individuals with opioid use disorders at the New Mexico Corrections Department (NMCD). The MOUD Nurse performs ongoing risk assessments, triage, teaching, inductions, stabilizations, medication administration and monitoring of patients in the MOUD treatment program. Assists in the primary care of patients within the MOUD treatment program.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
• Works in collaboration with the Recovery Service Specialists (RSS), and the Mental Health Provider (MHP).
• Collaborates, communicates, and meets with MOUD/MAT treatment team and other team members as needed and required.
• Provides MOUD medication administration as well as observed dosing, providing injections and pill formulations.
• Provides sound clinical judgment in decision making, understands patient needs, provides advocacy as needed and communicates nursing care to others on team.
• Acts as liaison between patients and providers.
• Assesses and monitors patients in the induction, stabilization, and maintenance phases of treatment.
• Provides ongoing medication management for individuals in the MOUD program.
• Provides informed consent form medication administration or observed dosing.
• Provides support to patients in all phases of treatment including nursing sick-call visits scheduled, chronic care clinics, and random urine toxicology screens, routine labs and as needed, medication teaching, monitoring, and pill counts.
• Exhibits non-judgmental, empathetic, and supportive approach when communicating with patients and staff.
• Follows state and federal guidelines in providing care to opioid dependent patients in collaboration with licensed prescribing providers and pharmacy.
• Consistently uses clear, concise, and effective written and oral communication; complies with departmental policies when sharing/documenting relevant patient care data.
• Works with the pharmacies and the MOUD team in obtaining medication orders, prescriptions, refills, prior authorizations, and communication as needed.
• Determines, based on patient need, if patient needs to be seen by a provider and how quickly.
• Promotes continuity of care within limits of staffing availability. Schedules urgent appointments appropriately.
• Responds to patient sick-calls within a timely manner.
• Documents all sick calls/visits; maintains accurate notes and attaches progress notes to patient's chart in a manner that is complete and easily understood by anyone who may need to access the record.
• Meets with Multi Disciplinary Team (MDT) on a regular basis and works jointly to establish expectations for how team issues will be managed and overcome barriers to treatment.
• Promotes strict patient confidentiality and right to privacy.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

The following requirements list the minimum to qualify. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted.

LICENSURE: Current, unrestricted New Mexico Licensed Practical Nurse License

CERTIFICATION: Current CPR Certification

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:
• Prefer a minimum of two (2) years of experience in nursing
• Prefer experience in maintaining documentation
• Correctional experience preferred but not required
