Cybersecurity Platform Operations Manager, managing a team of L1-L2 security platform sysadmins in the US region

Reporting to the Director of Security Platform Operations, you will lead the US based Cybersecurity Platform Operations team. The team consists of L1/L2 security system administrators who provide operational and break/fix services to our portfolio of security platforms. With technologies ranging from Identity and Access, Crypto, ProdSec, AppSec and more. You will work closely with engineering teams, product development teams and end users to deliver our services. We're looking for talented, motivated, and detail-oriented technologists with a passion for people and process. We value collaboration, communication, and understanding for achieving excellence. Our team's vision is for the seamless deployment, onboarding, integration, and usage of our security tools to meet the company's needs and embeds security into the fabric of every technology work-stream at PayPal.


Our mission is to administrator our security tools and their operational services to the companies' employees, with a focus on excelling in the user experience, education, and support while following best security practices.


You will help deliver the new SaaS/CoTs tools or platforms built by our engineering teams to the company, as well as operate and run them with your team of L1/L2 system administrators. This role and the team thrive with a certain mindset, wherein user experience is of utmost priority. Enshrining security-first thinking in every action we take.

Your Day-to-Day:



  • Provide technical leadership and guidance to your team fostering a culture of collaboration, wellbeing, innovation, and continuous improvement.

  • Be a strong, compassionate and thoughtful people manager

  • Develop your team's potential and skillset over time.

  • Be an SME on our technical platform and services.

  • Be a POC to the wider business for the services we provide.

  • Manage our teams involvements and response to incidents and outages.

  • Manage our teams ticket intake and backlog.

  • Continuously review, revise and improve our workflows and processes.

  • Work to deliver the companies OKR's and KPI's relevant to security.

  • Partner with our engineering teams to deliver project-based work such as tool deployments.




Skill set required:



  • 8+ years of experience in the security/IT system admin/operations domain, with 5+ years of professional experience managing a global support team.

  • Strong people management skills with a proven track record of compassionately managing diverse set of people and talent, with a very strong focus on wellbeing.

  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills with the ability to address complex technical and non-technical challenges.

  • Experience building and developing teams that exhibit strong ownership, user empathy, and engineering excellence.

  • Calm, measured and analytical approach to challenges, with outside and lateral thinking and problem solving.

  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and manage stakeholders' expectations.

  • Working on both tool deployment projects and run-the-business operations.

  • Strong understanding of standard security technologies such as cryptography, key management, Identity & Access Management, Proxies and Networks, Prodsec & Appsec tools, VM solutions, OS patching

  • Experience of Sailpoint, Citrix, Zscaler, PIng SSO, Keyfactor, Hashicorp Vault, Python, Service Now beneficial

  • CISSP, ITIL or other relevant certifications.

  • People and process development.
