Qualifications:
Preferred: Associate Degree in Science (AS) or Associate in Applied Science (AAS) with concentration in chemistry, biology or biotechnology.
Minimum: At least 12 college credits in chemistry, biology and microbiology (equivalent to to 3-4 courses, not at an introductory level).
Proficient in the use of computer software Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Proficient in the use of analytical scales.
Proficient in the use of aseptic technique.
Experience culturing mammalian cells.
Excellent communication and time management skills.
Excellent teamwork skills.
Experience in the preparation of microbiological culture media, pH standards and mammalian cell culture media.
Experience preparing chemical solutions, such as buffers, pH standards.
Experience with the use of autoclaves and sterilizers.
Experience with common laboratory equipment, including non-analytical scales, pH meters, water baths, chemical fume hoods, biological culture cabinets, and microscope

Responsibilities:
Prepare culture media for the microbiology and biotechnology laboratories following established standard operating procedures.
Prepare growth media for the Cell & Tissue Culture laboratory following standard operating procedures.
Dispose of biological waste following proper sterilization procedures involving the use of an autoclave.
Keep an up-to date inventory of materials, supplies, and equipment.
Procure quotes to the department's office assistant for purchasing of materials and supplies.
Keep logs of equipment service appointments.
