Position Summary: The Director of Budget & Finance for Alumni Engagement/Director of Budget & Finance, William & Mary Alumni Association (Director) is a critical member of the Alumni Engagement Leadership Team in the Office of University Advancement at William & Mary. This position has responsibilities to support both the university and the William & Mary Alumni Association (WMAA). University Advancement's overarching goal is to create the conditions that allow W&M to flourish and advance as a world-class university through the engagement and active support of students, alumni, parents, friends, corporations, foundations, faculty and staff, in a lasting, robust culture of engagement and philanthropy. In their role supporting the university, the Director reports to the Senior Director, Board & Operations, University Advancement. The Director manages the financial operations, accounting and financial reporting for the Office of Alumni Engagement. They work in support of the mission of alumni engagement and in accordance with federal, state, university, and accounting industry regulations. The Director manages the daily operations of the team which includes financial and transactional accounting, budget preparation and budget forecasting.
In their role supporting the WMAA, the Director works under the supervision of the COO of the William & Mary Alumni Association. The Director is responsible for oversight of the annual WMAA financial reports and IRS forms 990 and 990T, interaction with an independent auditing firm, as well as WMAA Board budget and financial operations processes, including endowment reporting, for the WMAA Board, working closely with the WMAA Finance and Investment Committee.
The successful candidate will be a proactive member of the talented and innovative Alumni Engagement team which includes Alumni Success, Alumni Experiences & Business Development, and Alumni Engagement & Inclusion Initiatives. Alumni Engagement ensures that all alumni of William & Mary are engaged, involved, represented and encouraged to be active with, informed about, and supportive of the activities of William & Mary.

Bachelor's degree in accounting, business, or finance, or an equivalent combination of education, experience, and training.
Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusiveness, including but not limited to collaboration, staffing, and programming.
Significant and progressively responsible experience in developing and administering budgets.
Experience managing budget projections, monitoring expenses, analyzing variances, and ensuring that actual expenditures comply with budget guidance (typically 5+ years).
Experience in financial reporting and revenue and expense development in support of an organization's priorities (typically 5+ years).
Experience continuously assessing financial operations efficiency and industry best practices and implementing changes as required (typically 5+ years).
Outstanding interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills, with the proven ability to work collaboratively as a team player as well as develop and foster communication and teamwork with a diverse audience including alumni, donors, faculty, staff, students, and the university community.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master's degree in Finance, Accounting, or Business Administration.
Significant experience working in an accounting or financial management position in higher education or complex nonprofit. (typically 8+ years)
Experience working in a finance or budget position in an office of advancement at a college or university. (typically 8+ years).
Experience working for a foundation or 501(c3) organization, preparing IRS forms 990 and 990T. (typically 8+ years).
