Job Description:

Boise State's Astro Adventurers Summer Camp is seeking a passionate and dedicated Camp Director to lead and oversee our camp program. The Astro Adventurers camp is a space-themed summer camp dedicated to cultivating the camper's innate curiosity about space science and exploration of the cosmos. Through hands-on activities, group challenges, and engaging presentations tailored to address Idaho State Science Standards, campers will learn how astronomy connects every day to everything, the commonplace to outer space.

The Camp Director will be responsible for overseeing day-to-day camp operations, including staff management, schedule and activity logistics, and camper safety. We are seeking an individual who will work closely with our Central Idaho Dark Sky Reserve STEM Network team to communicate with parents/guardians, help train staff members, and ensure a positive and fun experience for campers.

This position starts at 10 hours per week for training during April and May, leading up to the start of camp. In June, the position will increase to 39 hours per week for the 4 weeks of camp.


Essential Functions:



75% of the time of the Camp Director:

  • Work closely with the Central Idaho Dark Sky Reserve STEM Network team to complete any and all tasks.
  • Oversee day-to-day camp operations, including managing camp schedule, activities, venue coordination, and overseeing camp staff.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for parents/guardians, staff, and facility managers.
  • Ensure staff is trained and supervised before and during camp and maintain a positive and respectful work environment for staff and campers.
  • Communicate with parents/guardians regularly leading up to camp and during camp.
  • Help handle the check-in and check-out process at the start and end of each day during camp.
  • Handle any conflicts or emergencies that could arise before and during camp.

20% of the time of the Camp Director:

  • Help design and curate space-themed activities that align with Idaho State Science Standards.
  • Work with our senior student leader to create age-appropriate educational experiences.
  • Assist with camp promotion before the start of camp.
  • Manage camp payments, refunds and handle camper's waiver forms.
  • Ensure a health and safety plan is in place before the start of camp.
5% Perform other duties as assigned.



Minimum Qualifications:


Bachelor's degree in a STEM field or equivalent experience


Preferred Qualifications:


One or more years of teaching experience is preferred.


Salary and Benefits:


$24.00 - $26.00 per hour, commensurate with experience.

This position is temporary and non-benefit eligible.
