Position Summary:
The Nursing Program is seeking a dedicated and dynamic laboratory technician for a grant-funded position that will last one and a half years. This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the success of our nursing students and program initiatives, with a strong possibility of transitioning to a permanent role upon grant completion.
The nursing laboratory technician plays a key role in supporting health profession programs by performing technical work in a laboratory setting and adhering to established procedures, guidelines, and regulations. This position primarily supports the Associate Degree Nursing, Practical Nursing, and Nursing Assistant programs.
Responsibilities include:
Preparing lab materials and demonstrations
Assessing classroom needs and acquiring necessary materials and equipment
Collaborating with faculty and co-workers
Maintaining adherence to safety protocols and regulations.
The role requires knowledge of medical terminology, procedures, and techniques. The work schedule is variable and may include evenings and weekends.
Continued employment in this position is contingent upon continued funding through designated external sources.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Prepare and set up lab materials, equipment, and supplies for skills practice and simulations
Maintain cleanliness, organization, and functionality of the lab and storage areas
Ensure all equipment is in working order and perform routine maintenance or coordinate repairs as needed
Monitor inventory levels and order necessary supplies and equipment
Assist faculty with lab demonstrations and setup for skills practice sessions
Provide guidance to students during lab activities, reinforcing proper techniques and procedures
Support faculty in creating and maintaining a safe, supportive, and effective learning environment
Enforce safety standards and procedures in the lab, ensuring compliance with institutional, state, and federal regulations
Conduct regular safety checks of equipment and materials
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of laboratory protocols and best practices
Collaborate with nursing faculty and staff to identify and address lab needs
Communicate effectively with faculty, students, and co-workers to ensure the smooth operation of the lab
Participate in team meetings and contribute to program improvement efforts
Assist with scheduling and coordinating lab activities and events
Maintain accurate records of lab usage, inventory, and equipment maintenance
Support faculty with data collection for program evaluations and accreditation requirements
Stay current with advancements in nursing education technology and simulation
Attend training sessions and workshops as needed to enhance skills and knowledge
Performs related duties as assigned by the Laboratory Supervisor
Job Requirements:
Associate's Degree in a related field
or
Two years of laboratory experience in a health-related skills lab and/ or simulation laboratory environment
or
An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job, such as those listed above
Preferred:
Hands-on patient care experience working as a CNA or PCT

Laboratory principles and practices to include safely operating medical-grade equipment frequently used in the classroom
Proper use and care of laboratory equipment
Working knowledge of MS Office Suite applications

Communication and interpersonal skills when interacting with coworkers, faculty, supervisor, students, vendors, etc.
