The Payroll Clerk II is responsible for accurately managing employee payments for various companies that include multi-state, international, union, hourly and salaried employees on different payroll schedules. This deadline-driven position requires collaboration with Human Resources to ensure accurate pay data. This is a customer-service driven position tasked with identifying and resolving payroll related employee, supervisor and manager concerns or questions as well as keeping the company compliant with relevant laws and regulations.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
•Process payroll with automated timekeeping application (ADP) on bi-weekly schedule for multiple companies in various states. This includes review and correction of timesheet data weekly while ensuring compliance with all laws as well as with collective bargaining agreements.
•Serve as an internal resource in identifying and resolving employee concerns as they relate to payroll, the payroll systems or payroll related policies, this includes training and generating payroll reports for employees and supervisors/managers.
•Knowledge of general accounting principles and preparation of payroll entries for posting to the general ledger including standard payroll journal entries, month-end accruals for sick, vacation and holidays and unpaid wages. Additional finance and benefits journal entries as needed.
•Answer employee questions and monitor the payroll inbox daily. Process tax updates, garnishment entry and response to agencies, Direct Deposit changes, retro payments, bonus, and expense report reimbursement and ensuring all HR updates have come over to eTime system as needed.
•Comply with all SOX guidelines and assist in SOX, Worker's Compensation, and Annual Financial Statement audits. Provide annual employee data related to grants and tax credits.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
•High School diploma or GED and 1-3 years of related experience. Associate's degree preferred;
•Experience with Union payroll and Collective Bargaining Agreements;
•Experience processing payroll with an automated timekeeping application, preferably ADP.
COMPETENCIES/SKILLS
•Must be well-organized to manage multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and maintain accurate payroll records.
•Strong skills in Excel;
•The ability to handle sensitive employee data with confidentiality is critical for this position;
•Understanding of Federal, State, and local payroll regulations to ensure company compliance and avoid penalties;
CERTIFICATIONS and LICENSES
•Fundamental Payroll Certification (FPC) or Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) Designation from the American Payroll Association are highly encouraged within first year of employment.
