We are seeking an experienced Quarry Manager to oversee operations at our Battleground Quarry in Falkville, Alabama.
Job Overview:
The Quarry Manager at the Battleground Quarry will be responsible for overseeing the efficient, safe, and profitable operation of the quarry. This position requires a seasoned leader with a strong background in aggregate operations, who can manage a diverse team, ensure high-quality production, and maintain compliance with safety and regulatory standards. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in quarry management, aggregate plant production, and cost control, as well as a proven track record of leadership.
Key Responsibilities:
Operational Management: Oversee and manage daily quarry operations, ensuring the extraction of materials meets quality standards while achieving production goals for a 500,000+ TPY operation.
Team Leadership: Lead a team of approximately 15 employees, including quarry operational staff, scale house, and the Quality Control (QC) technician. Foster a team-oriented, safe, and productive work environment in line with the Wiregrass core values.
Cost Control: Manage quarry costs effectively to ensure adherence to the budget. Implement cost-reduction strategies where possible without compromising safety or quality.
Production Planning and Oversight: Oversee the production process, ensuring that operations run smoothly and efficiently to meet customer demand and maintain the quarry's output.
Safety and Compliance: Ensure compliance with MSHA (Mine Safety and Health Administration) regulations, ADEM and other government regulatory agencies. Promote a safety-first culture and ensure staff follows all safety and environmental procedures.
Quality Control: Ensure that all extracted materials meet or exceed state technical specifications and/or customer requirements. Monitor and ensure quality control procedures are consistently applied across all operations. Utilize quality control results to maximize production and efficiency.
Staff Development: Set clear expectations for quarry staff, provide leadership, and foster a culture of accountability, growth, and continuous improvement through training and development initiatives in line with WCC core values.
Process Improvement: Identify areas of improvement within quarry operations and implement innovative strategies to improve efficiency, productivity, and safety.
Reporting and Communication: Regularly report to the Aggregate Area Manager and maintain effective communication on safety, operational status, production goals, challenges, and improvements. Collaborate with the area sales team to ensure material availability and customer satisfaction.
Qualifications:
Education: A bachelor's degree is preferred but not required. A background in Mining Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related field is a plus.
Experience:
A minimum of 5 years of leadership experience in aggregate operations, with a strong emphasis on aggregate plant production.
Proven experience in managing large-scale quarry operations, preferably with a focus on safety, production and cost control.
Skills:
Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs, especially excel, with the ability to adapt to new applicable software.
Strong math skills with the ability to analyze and apply data for decision-making and reporting.
Experience with HCSS software, Tungsten, Aggflow, and other process control software preferred.
Knowledge of heavy civil construction projects (specifically asphalt) is a plus.
Ability to work with safety in mind, demonstrating a history of compliance with MSHA and ADEM standards and regulations.
Preferred Skills:
In-depth knowledge of local quarry operations and aggregate production processes.
Experience with MSHA safety guidelines and ensuring compliance across all facets of quarry operations.
Familiarity with state technical specifications and industry standards for aggregate production.
Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
Work Environment:
This position will be based at Battleground Quarry in Falkville, Alabama, with the majority of work performed outdoors. The role requires the ability to work in varying weather conditions and exposure to typical quarry environmental factors such as dust, noise, and heavy machinery.
