WAVE is currently looking for a Tool and Die Trainee to join our team!
The schedule will be Monday through Thursday 2:30 PM - 12:30 AM (10 hour shifts), with OT as needed based on business need
This position is responsible for activities associated primarily with presses. The successful candidate will work under the guidance of experienced technicians to learn and perform various tasks related to the repair and maintenance of tooling equipment. This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to start a career in the tooling and machining industry.
General Responsibilities:
Learn and assist in repairing tooling using a variety of machine shop equipment and bench work to maintain close tolerances of ±.0005.
Learn to select allowances for spring pressures, lapping, grinding, fitting, and finishing of new tooling.
Gain knowledge in selecting metals, materials, and heat-treating processes to obtain quality parts.
Observe and assist in diagnosing machine operations to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance production.
Perform visual and gauge-specific quality inspections of parts under supervision and assist in making corrective actions as required.
Verify conformance of finished workpieces to specifications using measuring and inspection tools.
Assist in conducting tooling changeovers and troubleshooting vertical startup and quality specifications.
Participate in try-outs on all new tooling and verify samples meet quality specifications.
Support the supervision of tool room functions such as inventory management.
Perform basic machine preventive maintenance on presses and other auxiliary equipment.
Always maintain all work areas and equipment in a clean and orderly condition.
Follow all safety procedures, including proper lock-out procedures during repairs or machine adjustments, and wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
Actively participate in communication and company culture initiatives.
Measures of Effectiveness; including, but not limited to:
Safety - OSHA rate, compliance to regulations/policies, evidence of risk reduction, engagement in 8-Step Safety Process, near-miss reporting
Quality - Customer claims, quarantined product, ability to recognize defects and implement corrective actions through visual inspection while machine is in operation
Communication - End-user communication to diagnose issues and successes, Gemba, kaizen event participation
Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED
Able to lift a maximum of 40 pounds
Able to stand 8-10 hours per day at assigned work area
Background check required
