Job Summary: The Manual Machinist is responsible for operating and maintaining manual machining equipment to produce precision components according to specifications. This role requires a high level of expertise in manual machining techniques, attention to detail, and a commitment to quality. The successful candidate will work closely with engineers and other team members to ensure the accurate and efficient production of parts.



Operational Duties:


  • Set up and operate manual lathes, mills, grinders, and other machining equipment to produce parts according to engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Select and install appropriate tooling and fixtures for each machining operation.
  • Perform precision measurements using calipers, micrometers, gauges, and other measuring instruments to ensure parts meet tight tolerances.
  • Make necessary adjustments to machine settings to achieve desired dimensions and surface finishes.
  • Monitor machine operations to detect any issues or deviations from specifications and make corrections as needed.
  • Perform routine maintenance on manual machining equipment to ensure optimal performance and longevity.



Quality Assurance:


  • Inspect and verify the quality of machined parts throughout the production process, ensuring compliance with engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Document inspection results and maintain accurate records of production runs.
  • Participate in root cause analysis and corrective action processes for any quality-related issues.
  • Follow established quality control procedures and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.



Safety and Compliance:


  • Adhere to all safety protocols and guidelines to maintain a safe working environment.
  • Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and ensure proper handling of hazardous materials.
  • Report any safety concerns or incidents to the supervisor immediately.
  • Comply with company policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.



Collaboration and Communication:


  • Work closely with engineers, production supervisors, and other team members to ensure the smooth flow of work and timely completion of production orders.
  • Communicate any issues, delays, or changes in the production schedule to the appropriate personnel.
  • Provide input on process improvements and participate in team meetings and training sessions.



Qualifications:


  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical or vocational training in machining is preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience as a manual machinist in a precision manufacturing environment.
  • Proficiency in operating manual lathes, mills, grinders, and other machining equipment.
  • Strong understanding of machining principles, techniques, and tooling.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and technical specifications.
  • Excellent precision measurement and inspection skills.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills.
  • Knowledge of safety protocols and best practices in a machining environment.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks effectively.
