Your Role
Mirus Bio is expanding and has an immediate opening for a full-time R&D Senior Scientist based in Madison, WI to help develop the next generation of transfection reagents, enhancers, and related products. This role will join the R&D Chemistry Team to perform hands-on analytical development work for the next generation of transfection reagents, enhancers, and related products. This R&D Senior Scientist position reports to the Director of Chemistry.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Independently design, execute, and analyze laboratory experiments that support the development and application of new and existing transfection technologies and products. Examples of experimental design outputs include: (1) purity parameters, (2) molecular specifications, and (3) nanoscale interactions with nucleic acid of both raw materials and final product formulations.
Provide analytical and synthetic expertise to help support, develop, perform, and transfer analytical methods for the qualification of Mirus raw materials and product formulations. This includes the characterization, purity, identity, and stability of small molecules, lipids, and polymers using various techniques, such as ultra/high performance liquid chromatography (U/HPLC), nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy (NMR), fourier-transform infra-red (FTIR) spectroscopy, gel permeation chromatography (GPC), mass spectrometry (MS), dynamic light scattering (DLS), and others.
Synthesize and characterize small molecules, polymers and lipids to develop qualified materials.
Design and perform forced degradation studies on new and existing raw materials and product formulations.
Act as the subject matter expert (SME) to enable the technical transfer of analytical methods to internal and external partners; help write, and review SOPs related to analytical instrumentation and associated methods.
Implement, maintain, calibrate, and, where necessary, qualify analytical instrumentation.
Perform data analysis and interpretation to elucidate structure-property relationships and comparison of groups. For example, statistical analysis of compounds using, for example, GraphPad, t-test, ANOVA, etc.
Stay current with scientific literature and technological advancements; provide guidance on the use and implementation of analytical techniques for various R&D projects.
Maintain a detailed laboratory notebook and tracking of synthesized materials in a timely manner. Follow Good Documentation Practices and provide data to support process development and technology transfer.
Attend, present data, and participate in discussions at R&D group meetings. Participate in background presentations on a rotating basis.
Communicate effectively across multiple teams, such as Production, Quality, and Operations, to ensure alignment and eliminate barriers.
Build positive relationships during internal and external interactions.
Perform other duties as assigned by Director of Chemistry.
