High school diploma or equivalent, five years experience in the operation, maintenance, and installation of HVAC systems, two of which were in a supervisory capacity, possession of a current Refrigerant Transition and Recovery Certification, and possession of a valid driver’s license and maintenance of a driving record sufficient to maintain insurance coverage under the University of South Alabama. Successful completion of a program of study in HVAC at an accredited vocational/technical school as approved and accepted by the University of South Alabama may substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required experience, up to two years.

The University of South Alabama’s Central Utilities department is seeking to hire an HVAC Maintenance Supervisor. Interested candidates should apply to be considered.
Essential Functions These are the job duties required of the position.
Essential Functions
Provides general and direct supervision to main personnel engaged in the operations, repairs, and preventative maintenance of the utilities plant and associated departmental equipment and systems.
Performs routine inspections of major items of building air conditioning units including: compressors, condenser, pumps, cooling towers, coils, fans, filters, heat wheels, gauges, motors, starter, pneumatic and electronic controls, valves, meters, thermostats, switches, and related equipment to determine proper functioning and correct settings.
Reads blueprints to determine location, size, capacity and type of components needed to effect repairs.
Assigns work to lower level mechanics for the repair, maintenance, and installation of equipment.
Orders correct repair materials, parts through suppliers.
Supervises the Central utility employees and the performance of test to ensure the proper operation of equipment.
Regular and prompt attendance.
Ability to work schedule as defined and overtime as required.
Related duties as required.
