Position Summary:

The assistant coach, Women's Swimming and Diving will assist in all facets of daily training and preparation for team competitions. The Incumbent will be responsible for all program operations, managing travel for athletes and coaches/administrators/students, assists the Student Athlete Development staff in managing the student-athlete life skills and players' development, and coordinating special events for the program. S/he will also manage recruiting records in accordance with NCAA regulations for the recruiting of student-athletes, manage booster functions for donors (including dinner meetings, fund raising events, etc.). The incumbent will serve as a representative of the University, displaying courtesy, tact, consideration, and discretion in all interactions with other members of the Rice community and with the public.

Minimum Requirements:


  • Bachelor's degree
  • One year of related experience
  • Must be able to correspond professionally both in writing and orally
  • Must be available to work nights, weekends, and holidays as team schedule requires
  • Frequent travel during season
  • Must be familiar with MS Office Suite


Skills:

  • Demonstrated success in skill instruction and practice / game plan development
  • Knowledge of NCAA legislation and participating conference bylaws, and compliance guidelines related to a sports program
  • Able to motivate athletes to perform at peak ability
  • Demonstrated good sportsmanship and ethical behavior
  • Highly organized, good time management, and sound judgment
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of people in a diverse community
  • Demonstrated professional and effective public relations skills
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability to multi-task and work well in a team setting or individual setting
  • Ability to work in a high-pressure environment
  • Adaptable and supportive of a changing work environment
  • Creative and forward thinking


Essential Functions:

  • Manages in season travel schedule for athletes and a travel party of coaches, administrators, managers, trainers, and students
  • Manages recruiting records in accordance with NCAA regulations for recruiting of student-athletes
  • Manages all community relations programs
  • Provide skill instruction and training program for athletes
  • Assist in competition management of home events
  • Coordinates the purchase of airline tickets, hotel rooms, local transportation, and meals for the travel party
  • Ensures team travel is planned in a manner that complies with Rice fiscal policy, department missed class policy, and NCAA travel policy
  • Assists in management and set up and break down of necessary equipment in training sessions
  • Assists with on-campus recruiting events
  • Coordinates (with development) functions for donors, including dinner meetings, fund raising events, etc
  • Performs all other duties as assigned
