Our Forensic practice investigates problems in the built environment and provides evidence-based solutions founded on rigorous science and physics. We assist attorneys, property managers, building owners, contractors, manufacturers, and design professionals with a wide range of engineering and architectural issues.



The Role


Thornton Tomasetti's Forensics practice is seeking a Vice President Forensic Civil Engineer to join our team. The ideal candidate will have experience in project management and technical execution for site/civil development, drainage analyses, roadway, and utility projects. You'll be involved in developing and managing clients, leading pursuits, and securing work. Experience with repeat clients in the forensics space, such as attorneys and insurance professionals, is beneficial. You'll have the chance to work directly with diverse clients on investigations and projects, including emergency response, field investigations, engineering assessments, damage analysis, code compliance, design and construction defects, and professional standard of care. You may also serve as an expert witness in legal proceedings, with support provided as needed.



Responsibilities


  • Manage project teams to meet scope, schedule, and budget objectives.


  • Supervise, mentor, and provide technical direction to junior staff.


  • Conduct field investigations and forensic assessments.


  • Analyze extent and cause of damage, including code and design defects.


  • Prepare technical reports that support engineering findings.


  • Lead client relationships and business development efforts.


  • Represent the firm in industry presentations and events.


  • Serve as the primary client liaison, overseeing project delivery and negotiations.


  • Participate in emergency response stabilization and repairs.


  • Collaborate across teams to leverage work-sharing opportunities.







Requirements


  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering (Master's preferred).


  • PE license in at least one jurisdiction with ability to obtain others; NCEES profile a plus.


  • Minimum of 12 years of experience, including 6+ years in design.


  • Strong report writing skills with clear engineering opinions.


  • Testifying experience preferred.


  • Self-starter with strong leadership and project management abilities.


  • Active participation in industry organizations.


  • Willingness to travel in the US and internationally.
