What does an Engineering Manager do at Rinnai?

Provide engineering and product development leadership to the engineering, design, application, marketing, customer care and sales efforts of the Rinnai America Corporation. Product development leadership in support of the development of new products and applications that drive the company growth. Actively participate in providing engineering expertise which complements the efforts of Rinnai Product Development.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Provide product design, engineering analysis, regulatory compliance, and product Performance to optimize products for safety, energy efficiency, emissions, performance, reliability and cost.
  • Direct and assist in the development of product design and test plans including, product performance, application development, field testing, certification, and reliability assessment.
  • Work with Engineering and Regulatory team to direct product testing to refine and optimize system performance and regulatory compliance followed by literature enhancements.
  • Ensure that engineering projects and initiatives are executed according to Rinnai's policies and objectives.
  • Keep current on new technology development and deployment, engineering best practices, regulatory codes and standards for product safety and performance.
  • Direct, assist, review and approve the development and maintenance of technical literature for Rinnai's Products
  • Direct, assist and review in the production and execution of engineering change notices, engineering change requests, and supplier change requests
  • Identify and evaluate areas for improvements and implement engineering development and process improvements
  • Assist the Technical Service department with engineering expertise for field service support personnel
  • Support troubleshooting both in house and in the field
  • Define and assist the development of quality control processes, quality reports and data mining to improve overall quality of Rinnai products
  • Talent Development - Build the skills of the group through formal training, targeted on the job activities, expectation setting and embrace corporate Top Talent initiatives
  • Support a collaborative environment and drive knowledge sharing throughout the engineering group.

  • Various impromptu projects as requested.
  • Awareness and compliance of Company Policies and Procedures
  • Other duties and responsibilities as required.

REQUIREMENTS:

KNOWLEDGE
  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, Masters preferred.
  • Minimum 10 years of progressive engineering and product development expertise related to comfort solutions
  • Extensive knowledge of advanced engineering tools and methods
  • Advanced proficiency in mechanical systems and product design and applications
  • Deep understanding of product design and engineering fundamentals including heat transfer, fluid mechanics, and thermodynamics
  • Excellent understanding of CSA certification process and ANSI standards related to Rinnai's current and future product portfolio and ability to understand ANSI and CSA testing methods.
  • Experience with ASME BPVC specifically around H-stamp product
  • Experience with SolidWorks or similar 3D software.
  • Experience developing products via New Product Development process (Stage Gate) Detailed knowledge of closed system designs and hydronic system applications.

  • Experience with the following engineering tools: Thermal Dynamics, Computational Fluid Dynamics, Finite Element Analysis, Failure Modes and Effects Analysis, Design of Experiment, Lean/Six Sigma, Design Validation Plan & Report
