The Supervisor will have a technical background and leadership experience. They will manage and lead a team of early and mid-career engineers and energy professionals where they and their team will support energy efficiency programs for various customers, including utilities, national laboratories, private industry, and state/federal/local governments. The applicant should possess high emotional intelligence, strong organizational skills, and effective communication abilities, both orally and in writing, and must be capable of collaborating directly with stakeholders, team members, and clients. Additionally, the applicant should be able to work efficiently as part of a team or project, follow established procedures, and adhere to project timelines, deliverables, and budgets. This position will be based out of Frontier Energy's office in downtown Davis, California-an energetic and charming bicycle-friendly college town ideally situated between the San Francisco Bay area and the state's capital, Sacramento.

The expectations of the Supervisor will generally include:
• Lead and guide diverse teams to develop tailored client solutions,
• Encourage continuous improvement and professional growth through effective communication and strategic leadership, and consistently use effective communication styles to foster collaboration,
• Demonstrate ability to resource programs from across the organization, participate in hiring activities (job descriptions, candidate evaluation), and identify ways to solve resourcing problems.
• Provide encouragement and guidance for direct reports to develop active collaboration skills through frequent personal check-ins and provide mentorship to others in grade,
• Provide career path guidance to direct reports to allow them to progress beyond direct team,
• Conduct root-cause analysis on identified execution and staff interaction issues, proposing and implementing solutions or identifying and coordinating teams to address them,
• Ensure direct reports are on track to meet or exceed goals,
• Review the budget and scope of work breakdowns with direct reports to ensure the meeting of deliverables, milestones, and budgets,
• Manage and optimize resource allocation across teams and functions, fostering strong client relationships,
• Actively work with stakeholders, partners, and the public to continually uncover and leverage communication channels and opportunities to exceed program goals,
• Understand industry trends and resulting client objectives. Demonstrable ability to sell client scope expansion involving multiple disciplines and teams,
• Actively pursues strong relationships with key contacts at each client. Actively make client aware of their ability to provide solutions through team building,
• Develop plans, projects, and mid-complexity proposals across teams to translate concepts to client value,
• Adhering to company green policy and procedure manual, and
• Cultivating and fostering a proactive safety culture.

Depending on the applicant's skills and current Frontier staffing needs, work in addition to people management will focus on one or more of the following technical areas:
• Developing and analyzing proposed Title 24 energy code improvements and reach codes
• Performing or overseeing building energy modeling activities,
• Supporting federal, state, and local efforts to decarbonize buildings through energy codes, pilot programs, and other policy mechanisms,
• Planning and executing field or lab testing in support of research projects, and
• Applying technical analysis to support policies and programs. The position is a full-time (exempt) position. Some overnight travel may be required.

Required Skills Description
• Possess a solid understanding of the energy performance of buildings, such as the building envelope and mechanical systems, as well as an understanding of technical topics, including engineering physics, thermodynamics, heat transfer, building energy efficiency measures, grid-responsive technologies, decarbonization, and renewable energy,
• Excellent skills with MS Word®, MS Excel®, MS PowerPoint®, MS Outlook®, Adobe Acrobat, and Windows® operating systems,
• Excellent written and oral communication skills, with the ability to create written work product that requires minimal review by senior staff and understand as well as communicate complex technical concepts,
• Bachelor's degree in a relevant field from ABET/EAC/ANSAC/ACS - accredited program institution,
• 2+ years of experience in operations management, preferably in energy efficiency or residential/light commercial construction, and
• Proven track record of improving operational efficiency and managing large teams.

Preferred Skills Description
• Four years of engineering experience in the residential or commercial energy efficiency or building science arenas
• Solid understanding of energy efficiency and building science fundamentals,
• Experience with local, state, and federal government agencies, and regional and state-level utility stakeholders,
• Proficiency with building energy modeling software, including EnergyPlus, OpenStudio, and/or the California Energy Commission-recognized residential energy compliance tools (CBECC-Res),
• Experience with data analysis, scripting, analysis of large data sets, and statistical analysis,
• Energy efficient design of residential buildings,
• Hands-on knowledge in building construction, operation, and/or maintenance,
• Familiarity with the California regulatory environment, including California Title 24, Part 6; utility/third party energy efficiency programs; and grid flexibility and electrification policies,
• Strong leadership and team management skills,
• Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities,
• Exceptional communication and organizational skills, and
• Strategic thinking and planning.
