The Admissions Office at Roger Williams University School of Law seeks a highly-motivated individual to join our team as Assistant Director of Admissions. The Assistant Director supports all aspects of the admissions process to recruit and enroll a highly qualified class of incoming law students. The Assistant Director plays a significant role in the recruitment process including extensive recruitment travel, counseling of prospective and admitted students, execution of prospective and admitted student events, management of the campus visit program, building and maintaining relationships with current law students and student organizations to assist in recruitment goals, and assisting with pathway projects. The Assistant Director provides support in the execution of the overall admissions process. An ideal candidate possess exceptional communication skills, values a collaborative workspace, and demonstrates effective time management and attention to detail.
Reporting to the Director of Admissions, School of Law, the Assistant Director of Admissions, School of Law, is responsible for supporting all aspects of the Admissions process, as directed.
Admissions Outreach and Events
Assist in the planning, management and implementation of admissions recruitment and related events.
Serve as the point person for all prospective and applicant campus visits including management of the online tour schedule, matching students with an appropriate tour guide, arranging for classroom visits, and scheduling meetings with compatible faculty and administration.
Assist in execution of all aspects of in-person and virtual prospective and admitted student events, including invitations, room reservations, menus, volunteers, and staffing, for admissions in-person events.
Meet with and counsel prospective students during virtual and in person visits.
Communicate with and advise newly admitted students in their decision and transition to law school.
Assist in the upkeep of the School of Law and Admissions social media platforms, with support from the Student Ambassadors.
In conjunction with the Admissions Team and the Director of Diversity & Outreach, assist with the coordination of Admissions diversity and pathway events.
Assist the Director of Diversity & Outreach on major projects that build or reinforce pathways to the law school, as needed.
Assist in the facilitation of Pre-Orientation Programming recruitment and execution.
Utilizing a team of Student Ambassadors, maintain local information guides for prospective and incoming students to help them find a community outside of the law school.
Administrative Duties
Ensure the maintenance and custody of pertinent and confidential applicant documents.
Oversee the daily processing of inquiries generated from the web and by email.
Provide support in processing applications and communications through the Unite database.
Work with the Dean of Students office to assist with Orientation.
Serve as part of the team that reads and reviews files for admissions.
Respond in a timely manner to all telephone and general law admissions email communications.
Supervisory Duties
Manage the Student Ambassador Program, which entails overseeing a team of student workers, to set expectations assign work, and review performance, including creation of tour schedules, monitoring the creation of the law school's social media channels, and the staffing of admissions and diversity events.
Additional Functions
Travel to recruitment events all over the United States and Canada including night and weekend events, as required.
Serve as a backup tour guide to Student Ambassadors.
Job Requirements:
Bachelor's Degree in a related discipline.
Minimum of three years experience in higher education or a legal setting.
Advanced knowledge of computers including Microsoft Office Suite.
Strong understanding of diversity issues as they relate to students in a law school or in a professional school community.
Strong interpersonal and counseling skills including the ability to communicate effectively with diverse students.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including high attention to detail and the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
Excellent time management skills, ability to prioritize multiple projects and deadlines.
Ability to work independently and under pressure, to function effectively in a team and service-oriented environment.
Strong knowledge of social media platforms.
Ability to work weekends and nights, as need. Valid driver's license is required.
Preferred Qualifications
Juris Doctor degree.
Prior experience in databases and CRMs.
Work experience interacting with the public, preferably in an academic setting.
At the University's discretion, the education and experience prerequisites may be accepted where the candidate can demonstrate, to the satisfaction of the University, an equivalent combination of education and experience specifically preparing the candidate for success in the position.
