Job Description
Overview:
This position is a remote/hybrid-role, with a strong preference for a candidate who resides in one of our hub locations (Minneapolis, MN, Vail, CO, or Denver, CO metro areas), with other work locations considered for the right candidate. Regular travel is expected.
As part of the launch of Manna Tree's third fund, we created this senior position on our Investments Team to bring additional experience to the firm in health and wellness, beyond food and beverage. What You Will Do
Working closely with other members of our Investments Team, you will primarily focus on leading the transaction process, including deal sourcing, investment evaluation, due diligence, structuring, legal negotiation, and closing. Post-close, you will work collaboratively with management teams at portfolio companies, board members, and other members of the Investments Team to provide operational support and financial analysis to realize shared value and returns for both Manna Tree and the individual companies. This role will serve as a Manna Tree representative on various boards.
More specifically, you will:
Provide leadership and discipline in the overall investment process, ensuring adherence to Manna Tree's investment criteria and internal rate of return (IRR) objectives.
Bring influence and perspective to Manna Tree's Investment Committee (IC), helping us make well-reasoned decisions on behalf of the firm that further our mission and sector-focus.
Provide a network of consumer-focused strategic relationships to Manna Tree's network through existing relationships with emerging companies in our target markets, notably outside of food and beverage, to include investment banking relationships, in addition to venture capital and growth equity relationships.
Proactively build new relationships across the investment community to source high-quality investment opportunities in parallel with the business development team.?
Present specific investment opportunities to Manna Tree's IC for review/approval; work with associates to prepare investment memos and quarterly summaries.
Review and prepare investment theses and term sheets to guide investments (both initial and follow-on), leveraging appropriate structures to best match risk with expected return.
Lead due diligence, structuring, negotiation, and close of new investment opportunities.
Lead financial planning and analysis efforts across the portfolio, working across stakeholders to drive post-close value creation initiatives and solutions.
Demonstrates a tremendous instinct around trends and opportunities in the consumer health and wellness space, and adjacent categories (venture and above).
Demonstrate a willingness to conduct 'top to bottom' work on a portfolio company in the context of a lean and very hands-on team.
Serve as needed as a formal board member on investments made by Manna Tree.
Lead cash planning and analysis for portfolio companies; collaborate with a consultative approach with our portfolio companies around key strategic initiatives and future financing.
Review monthly and quarterly financial results and P&Ls on portfolio companies; provide required analysis and insight to both Board members and/or the companies themselves to ensure returns and strategic objectives are achieved (adjusting plans where necessary). Support annual and quarterly valuations.
Effectively communicate and quantify investment theses along with related risks and mitigating factors.
Demonstrate strong investment judgment; balance risk with a desire to meet performance targets.??
Manage third-party diligence providers, including legal, accounting, and industry-specific consultants.
Lead and/or participate in post-investment portfolio management, exit preparation, strategy and board representation.
Foster a positive and collaborative work environment across the organization; serve as a team member and culture evangelist.
Actively participate in the continued development and advancement of the firm and our investments.
Inspire, lead, develop, and mentor team members, at all levels, in a manner that aligns with company culture.
Who You Are
As a key player on our Investments Team, you have 12-15+ years of post-undergraduate experience, including significant experience in consumer sector-focused private equity or investment banking. Venture capital experience will also be considered. Candidates should have significant experience in middle market investment transactions, bringing extensive financial analysis, modeling, due diligence, and operating acumen to our team.
Qualifications:
12-15+ years of finance experience in an operating role, private equity, or investment banking; strong track record of realized results in consumer products or related sectors preferred. The ideal candidate has a mix of both operating and financial experience gained throughout her/his career.
Proven ability to proactively manage processes and outside relationships.
Sell-side experience, including underwriting, terms, exit modeling, structuring, and exit planning.
Operating experience that may include corporate development, M&A, and financial planning and analysis.
Full deal cycle experience, including investment strategy development, sourcing, due diligence, structuring, closing, portfolio management, and exits. The ideal candidate would have prior experience serving in at least one formal Board role for an investment that they are stewarding.
Bachelor's degree in business, finance, economics, or a related field. MBA or graduate degree is preferred.
Excellent analytical and quantitative skills with strong investment acumen.
Familiarity with investment analytic and tracking tools (e.g., Pitchbook).
